And although not in a mainstream sense, I would have to say that MMM has settled in very nicely as a touchstone for everyone from Sonic Youth to Phillip Glass. If you get the chance to hear the Zeitkratzer Metal Machine Music live performance with Lou. It is a lot of fun. Now what I am waiting for is the resurgence of "Sally Can't Dance". Seriously, call it a guilty pleasure, but I really like that album.
As always I don't relate to much of this though I loved seeing Lou closeup in November 1974
at Winterland in SF. I grabbed his booted foot when he sat down on the edge of the
stage to sing Ride Sally Ride and so on...
My favorite Lou official release is Take No Prisoners. My favorite Lou solo listening is live 1975, 1978-1979.
Doug Yule was at his best on lead guitar.
The audience boots with yelling fans/detractors and all.
I especially like the songs that the audience heckles the most including the long versions of
Candy Says from 1979. After that I like Magic and Loss and the tour accompanying that release.
Then I move ahead to 2004 to the present and those are also shows that I like, including
the ones with the Metal Machine Trio with Laurie and John Zorn. Oh yes to further alienate
I like the shows Lou did with Laurie summer of 2002 in southern Europe. Finally Fire Music
from the Raven is another bit of wankery from Lou that I enjoy. I only wish Lou would or had
performed Nowhere at All live, the best piece of punk rock, no flash, a little slash and
a lot of trash....

"Known to Exist" is like the tree that falls in the woods. If there is no one there to here it does it make a sound? When it gets played, when people hear it, then it takes on a whole new meaning.
OK I'll not post again, it's YOUR subject. Fine.

Whyever would you do that? I mean, if you were hoping for some of his genius to rub off on you you should've grabbed his head.

Relax, I'm not attacking you. I joined the forum for the opportunity to banter with people who are as passionate about this stuff as myself. Trust me there are absolutely dozens of threads on here that I have no interest in. As well, there are guys on here that have posted many hundreds of times more than myself, so get used to playing ball because there is going to be a lot of back and forth serves. Peace and enjoy coming on board, because a good forum needs good dialog.

Switching to decaf may be helpful as well, dial4... opinions are defined as follows-
"1. a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.
2. a personal view, attitude, or appraisal."

We all have them and different points of view are ALWAYS welcome here. Welcome to the dialogue.

As for the lack of VU releases, the VU were not Jimi Hendrix, who just about lived in the studio when not touring. It is amazing to me that such high quality unreleased stuff is still being released some 40 years after his death. The VU had a cult following back in the 60's, and had a MUCH smaller following than the Doors and Hendrix. I think that we are fortunate to have the amount of non official material that we have access to. And of course, I welcome more from the vaults as much as I did when I first heard them in 1967....

No no it was stupid for me to send a message. I'm very sorry. It'll never happen again.

So the topic is 'lamenting a lack of VU releases', the day I let that stop me from
posting whatever I choose would be the day time retrogrades to make sure John,
Sterling and their vocalist cease playing during their recording of Heroin to make sure
Maureen's monitors are working so she can hear herself.
(back to Winterland San Francisco November 22 1974)
As for grabbing Lou's head, it was most likely grabbed by the drag queens
to my right. They started with Lou's leg, baseball bat style. Right after
Lou pointed toward the hands on his leg in his ersatz bitchy way,
looking at his roadies to bail him out, he turned back to the audience,
continuing whatever song he was singing and got pulled into the crowd.
The roadies got him out. (The queens that showed up, well there was
one 6'4'' bald spade dude with massive arms in a long gown, full make up,
that's for starters, many of them sculpted and beautiful.) So yes they probably
connected with his head, maybe licked some of his sweat for the genius
it contained.
Other highlights of that zany evening out and about. 1)Lou attempting
the Iggy Pop arch, hands and feet on the ground belly facing the ceiling.
Except Lou, the second he arched, ached, he squinted his eyes
yelled 'shit' and collapsed, Iggy reigns in that position.
2)Lou going offstage audience left, I could still see him, toweling
himself off, taking a swig of scotch and having Ernst Thormahlen
( of Transformer back cover fame) come up behind and start humping him.
Ernst then dropped Lou. Lou, with a combined snarl and embarassed smile,
grabbed 6'3'' 220 lb Ernst and lifted him high and humped the laughing lout
repeatedly. Yes 5'7'' Lou in full albino insect alien mode doing something
off stage without falling on his pallid ass.

Therefore because of that enjoyable spectacle Lou made of his solo self, we will gratify
him with our lamenting the lack of VU releases, that is until some aging Queens spit back
into a teacup the genius they sucked off that sweaty dude, provided that they did not shoot it up
between themselves.
