That's a vox amp it looks like, behind him. Strong VU vibe.falconwhit wrote: ↑03 Sep 2025 22:48 Maybe made up?
The photo has a myheritage watermark, not a site known to host that sort of photos. (I couldn't find it there, but while there I stumbled upon a Cale Web Site maintained by Eden.)
According to Google Image Search, "The person in the image is Didier Lockwood, a renowned French jazz violinist. While the user suggested John Cale [...] the strong visual cues and associated information point to Didier Lockwood."
The light seems exaggerated for a BTP photo, the chin looks like a copy-paste job, the outline of the right arm and the hair also seem a bit weird.
but it's hard to tell considering the low res of the pic.

Yes it's clearly Cale. Don't use Google's worthless AI answers for anything.

Hey, may I know where did you get this picture? Thanks!

Alfredo, I think i saw it on instagram. The MyHeritage site has a "clean damaged photo" features, they are nothing to do with the picture

Re: VU Photo Thread
Yes indeed.
I just found this article and saw that Richard Harding, who owned Poor Richard's located on Sedgwick street, later opened Quiet Knight where the VU played in January 1970 for a week.

Re: VU Photo Thread
Hi all, that picture of John with the viola was posted online by me back in August. I took a photo of the hard copy in Sal Mercuri's VU collection at NYPL, where it was labeled as being taken by Billy Name at the Boston Tea Party in 1967. Looks like an AI (?) retoucher attempted to remove the glare...sorry, I wasn't allowed to take it out of the plastic sleeve! The original scans are also very dusty. I did what I could, lol.
There were several other photos of them performing at the Boston Tea Party in that set—I believe they were taken during the same night(s) as the beautiful "Praise Ye the Lord" image used on that one bootleg.
