Riffs the VU Ripped from the Stones
Riffs the VU Ripped from the Stones
I am not sure if these have been discussed before. But today in the car, the Stones' "It's Not Easy" came on...

...and I couldn't help but notice that riff is EXACTLY the same as this version of Guess I'm Falling In Love:

There have got to be other examples!
-how do we embed videos on this site?!

Hitchhike is of course a Marvin Gaye song covered by the Stones.
The real VU rip off is of the Everly Brothers "Love Hurts."

Re: Riffs the VU Ripped from the Stones
Back in the day when I had my record player that could do 16rpm I found all sorts of things about
VU songs when I played their records at that speed. Black Angel's Death Song, I'm Set Free
ATP. However Sister Ray was played at 45rpm, more than 16rpm. I guess it wasn't fast enough for me.
The lion's share of the speeds though was a respectable 33 rpm.

Nothing to do with the Stones - but I didn't want to start a new thread just to post this.
Every time I hear this song I think of the VU.
Its a 1964 single by Billy 'The Kid' Emerson called 'Aunt Molly'. I always think the groove is pure VU.
The organ is a bit rinky-dink and the vocals are more soulful ... but check out the amazing band....
