WL/WH Radio Ad

Post by Raysdeathmachine »

Oliver?s site has a real audio file of the radio ad for White Light White Heat.
Does this clip appear on any bootlegs in a more pristine form? I know the ad for the third lp and the radio ad for the EPI at the Trip is on several boots as well as the quasi legitimate What Goes On box set, but is there a boot with the radio ad for the 2nd lp? If so, can anyone upload it to brigidpolktapedtheworld?

I do not believe that the WLWH radio ad has ever appeared on vinyl or CD. I first heard it (in glorious but hissy stereo) on a copy of the old "22 demos" cassette.

Thanks for the information Lurid UK! Chances of finding a copy then are slim and none. Hopefully some kind soul will someday upload it for all to share...until then, I'll be content with the realplayer document.

I previoulsy sent my "22 demos" tape (with WL/WH and Chelsea Girl radio ads) to Simon (at least I think it was Simon anyway) and he burnt some of the tracks onto a CDR. I'm not sure if he did the WLWH radio ad as well.
Simon - did you digitise the whole tape of just parts of it?

If it is realplayer, I can burn it into AIFF with Audio Hijack. Standby...

Wow...that ad is a horrible recording! Probably from a warped old reel-2-reel tape - Oliver would know for sure. Keep in mind that the first second of the recording sounds like I cut it off, but that is how the document is posted on the VU website. I left 2 seconds of blank time in front of the track.

As far as my end of the lineage goes: Realplayer>AIFF via Audio Hijack.

You can grab this track from http://www.Megaupload.com. The track will permanently remain there unless there are no downloads for 30 days: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OG9CHWS5

I have this promo on a CDr called "U-Spaces, Promos & Radio Spots Volume 2" and ripped it from that (EAC)
Originally downloaded in FLAC format from DIME (I think).

Get it here (wav'ed and rared)

Deckarep, is it the same recording with the "hollow," distorted sound? Same source as the VU website?

I knew I had it somewhere! It still sounds very slightly hollow, but the quality is far better - i think it was taken from the original vinyl.

Below is the .nfo:

Psychedelic Promos & Radio Spots Vol. 2

In this volume, many brief interviews of psychedelic bands are featured. These were conducted by Harry Harrison, a New York DJ who had a weekly radio spot called "The In Sound" sponsored by the U.S. Army during the mid 60's. In these 5 minute spots, Harry would get a "fan" on the phone and ask them what they thought was "in" at the time. Then Harry would do a plug for the Army, play the chosen song in its entirety and perform a VERY brief interview with the band, usually by phone. These spots were compiled onto vinyl promo discs (6 interviews per disc) and shipped to radio stations around the country. Some of these spots have been edited by ? to fit on this compilation. -> U-Spaces
