First album acetate covered in this month's Record Collector

Post by Mark »

Anyone seen this month's edition of Record Collector? There's a very nice two-page spread on that recently discovered Scepter Studios acetate, complete with colour photos of the labels, interview with Norman Dolph and a breakdown of the tracks as compared to the final album.

Interestingly, it states that in addition to Venus, H and Waiting, the version of European Son is also a totally different take, longer with a more bluesy feel to the guitar lines. In addition, ALL the tracks are substantially different mixes to the official release.

We really need to get this thing released. Can someone please act?

Wow, that's cool. Does Record Collector have a website? I couldn't find one. What issue is it? It's such a shame that this acetate wasn't discovered before the first album Deluxe Edition was assembled. They really should do that one over again...

No, I don't believe Record Collector has a website. It's the current issue, dated May 05 I think.

I hope to God a label can get ahold of this. It is, for all intents and purposes, one of the most important discoveries about rock music in a very long while.

email record collector at janice.mayne@metropolis.co.uk the cost is ?8.00 for a back issue mailed to the states and the issue number is 310. You can pay by credit card. Their telephone number is UK 0870 735 8080 the international code is +44 but this is a "non-geographic number" and I do not know how that works but I would suggest +448707358080.

If you have difficulty pm me and I'll assist in getting you a copy.
