I was wondering why Coney Island Steeplechase has this "telephone voice sound". Is that a result of the mixing in the eighties?
Actually I likeit a lot, but it would be better if the chorus would also have this sound effect. sorry for my bad english..it's too late in here.

The funny thing is all Strokes songs have that same vocal sound.

I don't think it's a result of the '80s mixing, although I could be wrong. I can think of two other possibilities:

1 - It was a guide vocal, sung by Lou down the studio intercom or something for some reason. They intended to replace it with a 'final' version but as the track was never finished at the time it never happened.

2 - It's meant to sound like a telephone conversation - which does kind of fit in with the lyrics.

thanks. that's a good piont. I never thought about that. Too bad that there isn't a rough mix circulating.

and for the strokes: maybe that's why I like the strokes too ;) But actually it's the only connection I can figure between those two bands
