Not so sure myself...Keith and Lou tend to be both big on the I-IV-V chord pattern. I did read though years ago in the Who Maximum R&B book that Townsend was directly influenced by the song when he wrote "Baba O'Riley-Teenage Wasteland". It seems the few copies of that album that made it to the U.K. in 67-68, had a impact on London's R&R scene. Jimmy Page's Yardbirds even did a pretty cool version of "Waiting For The Man" as well. I also recall hearing that "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" was written by Lennon after soaking up VU&N on vacation in Ibiza.

This stirs some memories. I thought the same back in the seventies then forgot about BoB (until now - nice to be reminded, good post velvetfan).
Overall though I prefer the mash of SJ with Love and Affection by Two Nice Girls (you'll find them on YouTube).
