Anyone know if this is still in the works? Reissue producer Bill Levision was quoted as saying "the outtakes will be meatier on this Deluxe Edition compared to the Nico DE". Does anyone know if they have actual outtakes form the sessions for the 3rd LP?
Chris
What happened to the Deluxe Edition of the 3rd LP?
I take it no one knows anything about this? Did they really find outtakes from the session for the 3rd LP? They must have some interesting bonus material if this has alreaddy been in the planning stages for some time. Anyone want to hazzard a guess as to what the bonus material would be? I hope the 'lost' 4th MGM album stuff wouldn't be crammed on the 3rd album Deluxe Edition...
No, that stuff is supposedly also getting the deluxe treatment down the road. When talk of expanding the third album first surfaced, it came with the mention of doing the same for the "lost" material. And it can be easily done, 'cause you've got the "polished" versions from VU/Another View and the original, often preferrable "rough mix" versions which have been floating around on bootlegs for decades. I want this release to happen!!Chris M wrote:I hope the 'lost' 4th MGM album stuff wouldn't be crammed on the 3rd album Deluxe Edition...
And yeah, the word is that the third album "extras" will include previously unheard material. But that's all we really know - just about nothin'. The only stuff that's surfaced that fits the timeframe of the recording sessions are tapes of live gigs (La Cave, a few weeks before the sessions started, and Boston Tea Party as the sessions were probably done or wrapping up). And none of those gigs has any unfamiliar songs of which you might hope for a studio version. So who knows what they've got...
Anyway, this stuff always seems to take forever to develop, but it does eventually materialize, so keep your fingers crossed.

Cool - A "Deluxe Edition" of the lost album stuff with both mixes would be most welcome. The sound quality of the rough mixes will be leaps and bounds above what's on the boots.Chance wrote:No, that stuff is supposedly also getting the deluxe treatment down the road. One of my VU holy grails is outtakes from the 3rd album sessions. They obviousky had a bigger recording budget by then so I would think more alt takes and outtakes would of been kept....

Hey, for anyone who happens to own the deluxe version of the first album and wants to enlighten me real quick:
Are "Chelsea Girls" and "It Was a Pleasure Then" the same versions that Nico recorded later? I downloaded the ones that were supposedly Velvets demos but they don't sound like the kind of production the band would have used.
What's up with those songs "A Winter's Tale" and "Little Sister"? I've never seen them mentioned anywhere else. Why wouldn't the box set have them? Are they good songs?
Thanks. I'm getting into that phase that most of you have probably gone through already, where I can't sleep at night knowing there are demos and outtakes I still haven't heard.

See Homme's answer, but I'd like to add that Little Sister is quite good, with great Cale organ (should be included in that great organ numbers postStephen Says wrote:What's up with those songs "A Winter's Tale" and "Little Sister"? I bet they let Nico have it because they didn't think that much of it themselves.Cameo Role wrote:I didn't like Wrap Your Troubles... Maybe it would have been better if they had recorded it (not for Nico).
