I dont know if anyone else feels this way, but I think the "Sweet Jane" bootleg's sound fidelity is superior to the official issue, "American Poet." I feel the sound is closer and warmer...almost as if SJ is direct from the soundboard and AP is a very high quality recording from the FM-broadcast.
Either way, they both sound incredible.
As more and more VU/Lou documents come out on CD, the less likely I am to trade the boot CD-R's. For example, I paid $30 for the Max's Deluxe promo that includes the band intro on disc 1 (is it on the official release?) unreleased rehearsals. I am not willing (at this particular ethical crossroad) to dupe it and trade it.
However, any CD-R boot I have which is not commercially available, even if I have paid for it (the sucker that I was - F* Subterranean Records!), is always on my trade list. In these cases, I feel that the traders out there deserve not to be ripped off.
Am I an arsehole?
Boot sound-fidelity & Trading issues (Take the poll!)
i have only 2 liberated bootlegs. first is lou reed 'sweet jane' (which cost me about 5-7$) and second vu 'march of the wooden soldier' (which was more expensive - 10 £ - but it wasn't me who paid for it). i have 'sweet jane' on my tradelist but I always inform my traders that it is official available.
i trade everything i've got except 2 shows which were very difficult to get (john cale 'brighton sussex university 1975-05-09' & 'town hall, birmingham 1975-11-19'). i keep them for person who owns and will trade cale, nico & eno show from nationale galerie, berlin 1974-10-05.

Do the rehearsal tracks include the 40 secs of tuning, etc between the 2 songs? I know the "Collector's Dream" boot CD edits out that part and just has the 2 songs. My full rehearsal tape has this section intact, but it sounds like maybe these 2 songs were recorded from vinyl. So I'm wondering if the "Everything You Ever Wanted To Know" LP boxset was the sorce of the songs on my tape and has the tuning. But if the song time lengths on Oliver's page are correct, it does look like the tuning section is not on the boxset (unless the times are for just the songs).mg196 wrote:For example, I paid $30 for the Max's Deluxe promo that includes the band intro on disc 1 (is it on the official release?) unreleased rehearsals.
