Does anyone know how Metal Machine Music was received in Japan when it was released? Lou claimed RCA Japan loved it. Michael Fonfara, then in Lou's band, recalled that, on tour in Japan, the band felt obliged to replicate the album's sound for part of the show by leaving their guitars feeding back against their amps. I would love to know if MMM placed in the Japanese album charts and how many copies it sold in Japan. I've tried ORICON, the Japanese charts people, with no luck yet. Any info gratefully received.

This question sent me googling around and I found this – I know nothing about him, but there's a guy called Akabane Sadaaki, who took this picture of Lou on his first Japanese tour, 1975, and says they then became friendly:
