Question about WL/WH 2018 2xlp blue reissue

Post by falconwhit »

I know that the 45th anniversary double vinyl reissue of WL/WH that came out in 2013 doesn't sound good - is this also the case for the 2018 reissue on blue vinyl?
https://www.discogs.com/release/1262296 ... White-Heat
I would assume that it should sound better than the 1969 comp ( https://www.discogs.com/release/1171542 ... round-1969 ) which crams 22 minutes of music on one side, but the mastering and lacquer seem to be similar to the much derided 2013 WLWH reissue.

I don't care for the first lp - I already have 10 different pressings of WL/WH - but I'm tempted to get this version because of the 2nd lp with all the John Cale outtakes in one place.

Appreciate it if anyone can provide some insights on this pressing. Thanks!

Stampers match the 2013 pressing, unless someone just duplicated and edited the eariler Disocgs entry. Inconclusive, but I'd suspect that it sounds the same.

The European pressing of 1969 is very good. Cut a bit low but that's my only complaint. US pressing is terrible though (I've had both).

Thanks Martin. I have the European cut of 1969. Wondering if the same is true for the 2013 WLWH that the European version is fine as opposed to the US?

Oh, sorry. I somehow assumed you didn't go for 1969 because of the bad reputation of the us version and were looking for a different option for the cale-era tracks. Don't know anything about the WLWH expanded editions. I see it also has the alternate I heard her call my name that 1969's missing. If it also had the single mix of the same track I would have taken a chance on it myself.

Sorry to hijack, but is there actually a different take of I Heard Her Call My Name on the double vinyl? On the CD set I hear it as just a messier mix of the same take - I put it down to inaccurate track info...

It's an alternate mix, not an alternate take.

Ages ago, I ended up trying the usa version and thought it sounded the same as the euro copy
