I'm surprised that there hasn't been any discussion here of the best VU album released last year: Some Kinda Love by The Feelies.

It's great, really great. (Did I say how great it is?)
At no extra charge, here's an interview with Bill Million about it and lots LOTS more:

The Feelies
Re: The Feelies
Its a pleasant enough tribute. Nice to see another 1/5th on an inch taken up on my VU shelf...but I doubt I'll ever play it again.

Re: The Feelies
I would agree with the above comment. Although not to slight The Feelies In particular, because the original recordings are so iconic that I don't think I've ever heard a cover version that I ever felt was anywhere near as good as the originals. To the extent that I don't even see much point and listening to cover versions of their songs when I'd rather just listen to the original.
Re: The Feelies
I think it sounds like (a tribute to) VU at Max's.. Most songs are played too fast and with the absence of Moe & Cale it sounds pretty straight.
It works pretty well on the tracks from that era but not so well on the Cale-era songs IMO. Especially the lead vocal is not up to scratch on the old songs. Still, I'm sure I would have enjoyed it if I'd seen it live, but I would never waste valuable shelf-inches on this..
Covers tend to be most interesting when they are quite different from the original (like the Slits' version of The Story of My Life that was on one of the After Hours casettes that were posted recently).
