Squeeze Test Press has Additional Song

Post by fletchercjohnson »

I just listened to a US test pressing of Squeeze and there are 12 songs instead of 11. The song I can’t identify starts with “Don’t you think it’s really mean / telling everyone you’re clean” — any clue what this song is called or any other info? It does not appear on the Final V.U. box set. A completely lost track!

Could it be one of the mystery titles in Polygram's vault?

Okay, I'm back. Sorry, I'm actually receiving all this information through a third party even though I made it sound like I had personal access to the record in the initial comment.

Deadwax info is very simple:
SC-5A
SC-5B

And here's what you're really waiting for. A 60 second clip of the song. Unfortunately the audio is just being recorded by a cell phone in a store but you get a good sense of the track

Thanks for the update, and in particular for posting the excerpt.

It's clearly Doug, and sounds in keeping with the other songs on the album. Seems strange that it was left off, it's certainly no worse than anything else on Squeeze (possibly even better than some of the tracks).

Are you able to find out if there are any other differences, eg the running order or the mixes of the other tracks?

And... Do we get to know where this shop is? Presuming the record's for sale?

The sticker on the record has "TEST PRESSING" printed on it as well as "PRESSWELL RECORDS"

I'll reach out about what record store he is recording the video in

Thanks, well Presswell Records seems to check out - it was a large pressing plant that in particular is noted for Atlantic and Polygram test pressings in the 70s:

Well I'm not familiar with testpressings nor Squeeze, but afaik Squeeze was recorded in the UK and only issued on vinyl in UK/EU/JP [so not in the US!], and then almost 40 years after its recording a testpressing appears from a record plant in New Jersey...
Somebody can come up with a reasonable explanation for this?
