...the most beautiful song in the history of rock 'n' roll, IMO. Unbelievable song.

Yeah, it is beautiful. I don't think it's THE most beautiful song, but it's very beautiful.
I love the little guitar "solo" near the end--it's the icing on top of the cake/it really makes the song.

Don't trust between-song banter by Patti Smith, she's completely bonkers.

Hey Arjan, why in the world did you change "writ" to "wrote" in the second quote? I can tell you one thing--she definitely says "writ" (she's notorious for using the archaic I think)--I have the bootleg--"I Never Talked To Bob Dylan", or, as I, for some reason like to call it, "I Never Slept With Bob Dylan".

Arjan...my sanity depends on your response...

Yes from memory she definitely says "writ" Candy Velvet, Arjan must have just thought it was a typo, I wouldn't get too worked up about it
The song was written about Shelly Albin. Patti's comments are obviously just quips, as Arjan pointed out

I love Pale Blue Eyes but I still think 'Heroin' is The Velvets most nightmarishly beuatiful song, hell it might even be my favorite song in the world.
