I'm not a musician, so I could be way off base here, but I'm just throwing stuff out there to see if anyone else has the same thoughts.
VU - the first "Jam Band"?
I guess jamming would not necessarily have to do with the length of a song. As I understand it "jamming" involves improvisation - making it up as you go along. And, I think that most people, for some reason, associate that with longer songs. Which is one reason I love Sister Ray so much. Each version is unique and different from the others - outside of the basic lyrics and riffs. I don't necessarily think each one was thought out in detail before they started playing. It seems as if the "mood" of the band/performance kind of led the music in a certain direction.

In the context of "Jam Bands," jamming has EVERYTHING to do w/ the length of he song and where the music leads the musicians.tarbaby2 wrote:I guess jamming would not necessarily have to do with the length of a song.
