What is the VU fan's Holy Trinity of Music?

My post on "Hey Mr. Rain" brought up a couple of comments that lead me to ask this:

Is the VU fan's Holy Trinity the VU/Stooges/Dolls?

If you're into the garage-rock/glam end of it, yes. But much as I like the Stooges and the Dolls, they are "mere" saints in my pantheon, not part of the Godhead itself. Boring as it may seem, for me it would be Dylan and Neil Young with Crazy Horse* on the other corners of the Triangle. If it's Sixties/Seventies we're limiting ourselves to. Otherwise, count in The Smiths, Joy Division/New Order etc.

I think I gotta agree with arjan:

1. VU

2. Neil Young & Crazy Horse (not with CSNY)

3. Bob Dylan (60's stuff - not too fond of anything later)

I do like the Dolls, though, but I never got into the Stooges.

I absolutely have to consider The Smiths and Moz. Lyrically, I find them to be easily on par with the VU...and Moz has never lost his integrity.

However, I gotta go w/ my original three (VU/Stooges/Dolls) because those three spawned a ton of my fave music (Reed solo, Cale solo, Thunders solo). Moz was inspired by the Dolls...Marr by the VU...so I think they fit in my 2nd Generation top 3.

I love Neil Young and have a bunch of his LP's on vinyl (my mom was a pill-poppin' Young fan while in college in the late 60's), but nothing of his can match the guitar break in "Jet Boy" or the fury of the Stooges' "Loose!"

And Dylan...well...I never could get past his voice!
