I'm Waiting For The Man
I'm somewhat puzzled by who plays what instrument on 'I'm Waiting For The Man'.
I know for sure that Maureen Tucker did the drumming and Lou Reed did the singing. I have read that Lou Reed pounded the piano and John Cale played the bass, wich leaves the guitar to Sterling Morrison. Maybe it's just me, but it sounds like there are two guitars.
Does anybody have any information on this?

There are two guitars, the rhythm is played by Reed and most people think the lead guitar part is played by Sterling although a recent interview with Cale implies it might have been Reed...
The piano and bass are both played by Cale
You can find a complete listing of the entire album in this archived thread http://www.velvetforum.com/viewtopic.ph ... ight=plays

In the latest issue of the excellent UK magazie UNCUT (which features a poll of the 100 greatest debut albums in history, with the VU&Nico deservedly coming out at number 1), there is an interview with Cale, who says regarding Waiting for the Man:
"Lou came up with the riff and his solos were crazy. Sterling used to do the solos live....I dunno how we got the vocal, because we recorded everything on four-track. They must have left one track open for the voice."

It would be nice to have some VU fans on the streets though.Doctor Bob wrote:Yeah you're telling me.SilverSurfer wrote:Aaargh, this is getting complicated.
Me and Arjan have been arguing about this stuff pointlessly for years. But then it does keep us off the streets...
