VU songs you don't like?

Post by sister_dave »

Obviously we're all huge fans of The Velvets here but I'm sure here are some songs you just don't really like by them. For me, I never really took to acclaimed Some kinda Love, Murder Mystery or Ocean. I know, I'm wierd

Some Kinda Love is one of my most favorite songs ever. In fact, it was the first song by the VU that a really developed a passion for. When I first heard it I was blown away by how nice it was. I just listented to it over and over and over again. I've always wondered why it was such an underrated song.

The Max's Kansas City version I just consider to be a cool VU jam because it's not that close to 'Some Kinda Love' music-wise. The version on The Quine Tapes--the long, bassy version--is really really beautiful. The closet mix is extremely beautiful as well. I have some kinda love for that song...

Really, I think Some Kind of Love is the least song from all their albums.

I'll re-state that, I didn't like Some Kind of Love from their first three albums. There were alot of songs from Loaded that I didn't like.

That screeching sound on it is just irritating. The Rock 'N' Roll Animal version is better, but the lyrics are just juvenile. I feel just like Jesus' son? Dan Brown could've written that.

And there I was thinking "Heroin" was the greatest literary rock statement of all time...

For me....

'Murder Mystery'
'Cool It Down'

I used to hate 'Lonesome Cowboy Bill' but having heard the superior 'alt' version on 'Fully Loaded', I think its ok.

I also hate the studio version of 'Move Right In' as - unusually - it's quite lame compared to the boot versions. Plus NO LYRICS!!! Maybe they didn't have the time to do it justice in the studio.

Everything else is god-like of course

Damn right! Cool it Down is a joke.

The Murder Mystery has it's place, guys. I'm really surprised 3 of you have said that.

Heroin is beautiful.
