It's probably because they're a relatively small company, and once they've gone through the X-thousands of copies they manufacture, they figure there's not enough potential sales left to have another pressing made.

I'd say that's accurate. I'm sure they figure out how many copies will prodice the amount of profit they are looking for and end it there. Comps and remasters aren't expensive at all.

Happy to have it (and I'm not doing much double dipping these days), but it seems strange that "Dixie and Dixieland" isn't on there - yeah, I know most of us probably have it already on the Rhino compilation, but it seems it would be a no-brainer as a bonus track nonetheless.

I think it's because Dixieland and Dixie was recorded as a contract-filler for CBS (who released Vintage Violence and Church Of Anthrax) before John moved to Reprise for Academy In Peril and Paris 1919. So the rights will still be owned by CBS I guess, rather than Reprise which will be where Rhino are licensing the Paris 1919 stuff from.

So really, the logical place for Dixie (and the unreleased version of The Biggest, Loudest, Hairiest Group Of All which was apparently done at the same time) would be on the reissue of Vintage Violence. Unfortunately, they've already done that one and seemingly passed it over. Shame.

Where would "God Only Knows" and the other orchestral covers be? John talks about recording them on the "Hear Fear" interview, so I suppose those are Island. Hmm.

I wonder what outtakes exist at Warners for a potential "Academy In Peril" reissue (besides "Temper," of course).

I guess it's possible or likely that it could have been recorded at that point - it does feature several of the same musicians as Paris 1919. Maybe he'd moved to Reprise, and was then informed by Columbia/CBS that he still owed them a single? All kinda pointless seeing as they never actually released the tracks once he'd delivered them!

Doesn't he say in What's Welsh For Zen that his final session for Island consisted of God Only Knows and "a slow, sexy version of Willow Weep For Me"? Presumably that would have been after Helen Of Troy, so late '75/early '76. Again, it's strange that these weren't exhumed for the 'Island Years' compilation or something.
