If you live in the U.S., NBC broadcasts really old reruns of Saturday Night Live around 2 to 3 a.m. early Sunday morning (check your local listings).
Tonight (or tomorrow morning, depending on how you look at it), they're showing one with Lou Reed. It's from 1985/1986, and it's hosted by the late comedian Sam Kinison. Lou performs two songs, "I Love You Suzanne" and "The Original Wrapper." These broadcasts show the ENTIRE episode, unlike the reruns on Comedy Central and E!, so you'll be able to see both performances. Tape or TiVo it!
Late, late night rerun of Lou Reed on SNL

SNL is usually 90 minutes, but syndicated reruns on cable are edited down to an hour. Usually they cut out one of the musical numbers to accommodate the shorter time.
This was a pretty bad episode of SNL, but Lou was entertaining. Pretty slick, VERY 80's, but Lou was having fun and even though the tempo was too fast, "I Love You, Suzanne" went off pretty well (esp. when he sings 'I love you when you're good, good, good, good, good, I love you when you're bad, bad, bad, bad, bad....')

This is already making the rounds on torrent sites! Grabbed it yesterday.

Pretty cool! Wow...the Original Wrapper has NOT aged well. At all. This is where the worst phase of Lou's career began - WE NEED MORE SYNTHS!
BTW, who was the drummer?

TERRIBLE album, especially compared to the previous three (talk about coitus interruptus). Just be thankful he played something from New Sensations instead of sticking with Mistrial for both numbers.
Actually, to be fair, Mistrial does have three good tunes. "No Money Down," "Mama's Got A Lover," and "Tell It To Your Heart" would've made decent singles. Not his best songs, but they'er tuneful, catchy, and warm without getting sappy.

Tonight my 3-year old was misbehaving, so I made him watch The Original Crapper from SNL as punishment. Even at three years old, he knows 1980's garbage when he hears it! He put his hands over his ears and kept yelling, "Daddy, this sucks! This sucks!"
I am not joking, either.

Play him White Light/White Heat in mono and then tell us what he thought of it (just interested)mg196 wrote:Tonight my 3-year old was misbehaving, so I made him watch The Original Crapper from SNL as punishment.
