Squeeze

Post by Uncle Roy »

Hello. New Here. Looking for Squeeze. Not a collector, any format will do. Where does one look? Long time fan, always been curious. Others who have heard it should feel free to enlighten me as to it's content. Is it worth the search?

Squeeze is only available on Vinyl LP format and I don't believe it was released commerciallly in the US back in 1973. It was re-released in France back in the 80s so maybe you can check Ebay for a used copy of it? I know I saw a booted CD version of it awhile back.

I've only heard the song Caroline which you could download on the seller's page. The album features Doug Yule on vocals and the Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice on drums. It also features some unknown session muscians. Its really not The Velvet Underground, just a band with the name still attached to it. I just call it the Doug Yule Band. :?

Though some of those songs would sound like they would fit it on Loaded.

See if you can find of those CDs up on Ebay or if you can download them via Kazaa or Limewire.

I got a vinyl copy of it 10 years ago in Paris and found it pleasant to listen to
Although it has nothing to do with the Velvet underground as we all know it
between '65 and '70

Actually I think it's just Doug Yule and the drummer.

There's also some female backing vox and a saxophone player in there somewhere. But that's on just a couple of tracks.

Doug had a good vocal range - who's to say the 'female' vocals aren't him? I wouldn't be surprised if he'd put down the sax parts as well.

It's also worth noting that Ian Paice was asked by Mojo some years ago whether he remembered playing on Squeeze, and the answer was along the lines of "No, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen." He also said he'd heard the album and most of the tracks didn't sound like his playing - so maybe some of the drumming is Doug as well?

Good point, but really, the backing vox on "Mean Old Man" are female.
