The Quine Tapes

Post by Joe »

I was looking through the discography and noticed something called the Quine Tapes, I previewed it on Borders and the sound quality isn't the greatest but its still pretty interesting. Does anyone here own it and is it worth buying?

yes.If you have any interest in it , you should buy it.
You should buy it for three versions of sister ray alone!

Yes heh I think its safe to say that almost all of us here probably own it :D

Its well worth buying, like Changeling says, how can you go wrong with well over an hours worth of Sister Ray, let alone all the other good stuff on there!

Most people would get their hands on copies of the two "Live 1969" albums and "Live at Max's Kansas City" before they buy the Quine tapes though...

I think it's closer to an hour and a half of Sister Ray (one on each disc) - OOOOOOOOOOOH!

But does anyone know about the track listing on these discs? They don't match the order for the dates listed on Oliver's site. Is the correct setlist order the one on his site or did the producers (as usual) screw up the order on the CD's? And, if so, why?

Really, buy it...but only after you jhave all the albums. Doug's bass playing on the 11 min version of NEW AGE is amazing!

Plus it got a 17 minute long 'Follow The Leader', a fairly rare track. It's also on Lou Reed's Rock And Roll Heart. Compare and see which one you like best!

I must admit I've never bothered getting 'The Quine Tapes' - always considered it too similair in time/tracks to '1969' - but having read all these postivie comments I think I'll add it to my Christmas list.

Yeah I love that solo he does, its some of the best bass playing of all time, both on Quine Tapes and on Max's!

What relly turns me on about this 3-cd set is "waiting for the man" on disc 3
and "Ride into the sun"
Improvisation without being boring: not given to anybody especially in those days

Excellent, thanks for the comments, I'll have to see if I can find it at a decent price then.
