I must respond to the "Bockris is scum" comment. This is obviously Lou's view, BUT
1. I dont recall Lou suing him over anything Bockris wrote in his book.
2. Where else will you find out who "Pale Blue Eyes" is about? Or about the many other aspects of Lou's life which are not covered elsewhere?
3. The Bockris bio is probably the most accurate portrayal available of the "control freak/perfectionist" aspect of Lou's personality. (Let's not kid ourselves on that Lou is a nice guy, but he can still be a complete asshole and produce superb material. I would even suggest he produces his best stuff when he is emotionally distressed/disturbed.)
For the record, I think that Doug should have been invited to play on the 93 tour. It might have introduced some tension which would only have been a good thing....
It may be heresy, but I think that Reed/Yule band was just as "good" as the Reed/Cale incarnation. But it's hardly a comparison of like with like....
I'm not defending Victor Bockris, but I would highly recommend his book if you are serious about finding out what makes Lou Reed tick.
....my week beats your year....
