Nico Live Advice

Post by Pernod time »

I have been amazed how good some songs are which I have come across, obviously from late Nico live records sometime in the 80's. Can anyone give some kind of rating rundown, of all those Nico records. I would be very interested to hear some opinions.
One question, also is there a CD with the band she had with Cheetah Chrome from the Dead Boys available?

Thanks

FYI, here is what Cheetah had to say about Nico (from an interview at http://www.i94bar.com/ints/cheetah.html ):

Q. What was it like working with Nico?

I really enjoyed it! She had her own complete thing going, just her singing and playing harmonium, and I just worked around that. We were both in fairly wretched shape at the time, so the money was always pretty well spent long before we got near the stage, and once or twice I'd go to get paid and find out that Nico had gotten all the cash advanced to her before the gig and that I wasn't going to get paid.....but I can't say that I hold it against her, that was just her nature.

Have you ever read the book "The End"? About her last tour? It's a very good portrait of Nico and the way she operated. I really have to say that looking back I really liked her, she never tried to bullshit me and I always considered her a friend. And the voice.....man, what a fuckin' voice.

I found the followin glist of live shows w/ Cheetah at http://aubry.free.fr/nicoconcert.htm . Hope it helps!

Milwaukee, USA (1980) ( recorded on bootleg "Strange Window")
Metropole Theater, Wisconsin, USA (Juin 10, 1980 avec Cheetah Chrome)
Squat Theatre, NYC, USA (30 Ao?t 1980 avec Cheeta Chrome - Stefan Tischler has a unique recording of this concert on CD, 57 min (74 min VG)
Squat Theatre, NYC (early summer 1981 source: R. Deagle)
Squat Theatre, NYC with Cheetah Chrome (summer 1981 source: falconwhit@aol.com) ( 44 min VG-)

Thanks a lot, i've seen that interview with Cheetah, i94 bar is a fantastic site. Thanks also for the list, i wil have to try to find one of those, i'm a big fan of both artists. For me Cheetah is one of the absolute greats of the punk era, I know he had for a long time the same problems as Nico, but what a guitar player. I would have loved to see two such instinctive greats playing togehter.

I have several boots from the 80's and they all sound great. Perhaps because the crowds were so quiet? If you need cover-art for anything, please send me a PM. I have a small collection of cover-art scans I can provide for a nominal fee (the fee being a smiley-face emoticon!).
