Can someone ID this mix of "Rock and Roll"

Digging through 20 year old cassettes, I found a version of "Rock and Roll" on one of them that I can't place the source of.

It's the same performance as on "Another View," sounds like it's taken from vinyl, and does not fade, but ends on the final "...all right."

Can someone ID where this is from?

Well, if it's literally a 20 year old tape copied from vinyl, it could be from the 'Everything You've Ever Heard About... ' boot lp. See this page; http://www.members.aol.com/olandem/bootlp.html I don't have the lp , so can't tell you how it ends on there. There's also the 'NYC' boot from '89. Other than those, maybe it's from an earlier circulating dub of the original acetate? Not Simons '17 demos' though, it fades on there.

Thanks - it's not the acetate (which fades on "Everything" as well). It's the same stereo mix as on "Another View" - in fact it sounds a bit better than the CD. Does anyone have the vinyl? I wonder if the vinyl is mastered differently than the CD, and doesn't have the fade.

I've checked out the vinyl version - it also fades out, but not the same way as the CD version, so the the last "allright" is much more audible.

That's curious because on my copy of "Everything", RnR definitely cuts out at the end rather than fade. It cuts rather badly at the end of an 'all right' ...(as in 'all ri'). It sounds like its been arbitarily cut for no good reason rather than that the song has come to a logical end. Also, I think I can hear one tape wobble or drop-out at the end which also appears on the NYC version (which does fade out).

Could I have a different version of "Everything" - i know there was a second issue which is the one I think I have.

I re-checked "Everything," and it cuts off just as you describe. The heat here must be melting my brain...

Dutifully I check and yes! No fade on the vinyl, the band finishes and the last 'all right' is sort of a cappella, over the decay of the band noise - a nice touch which I hadn't noticed before. I rarely listen to Another View (or VU), and there are like about 5 other versions of Rock and Roll, so I have neglected this one.

Why would they eff around with it? - it specifically says it's the June 1969 mix on the label, while most of the album wasn't mixed until march 1986. Does the CD have the same notation?

CD liner notes say "Recorded: June 19, 1969. Mixed: June 1969."

"Rock and Roll", "Ferryboat Bill" and "I'm Gonna Move Right In" are the tracks whose 1969 mix is used; the others were (re)mixed in 1986.
