leaving the band

Post by Guest »

Hi there,

I am doing a paper about music in the '60's,'70's and '80's. Now I have to know the following things about the velvet underground.

When did the bandmembers leave the band (month plus year) and why did they leave?

Thank you so much for helping me!

You can send all your information to:

Thanks!

Angus Maclise
November/December 1965
The band got their first paid gig, and Maclise decided he didn't like having a job where he had to turn up at a set time, play for a set time and get paid a set amount

Nico
April 1967
Not sure about this - was it because she wanted to go solo?

John Cale
September 1968
Forced out due to personal differences with Lou

Lou Reed
August 1970
Never been specified, but believed to be a mixture of burnout, lack of money, and disillusionment with lack of success

Sterling Morrison
August 1971
Left to go back to college

Moe Tucker, Walter Powers and Willie Alexander
November 1971
Sent back to America after a European tour by the band's manager Steve Sesnick, who had unilaterally decided that the band would now consist of only Doug Yule!

Doug Yule
December 1971
Quit because there was no band anymore! Was later (November 1972) enticed back by Sesnick to do a short UK tour with different backing musicians as 'The Velvet Underground'.
