Which is why I'm so anxious to hear those She'll Make You Cry / Friends recordings that Doug, Sterl, Walter and Maureen made in late 1970! They must be around somewhere in Atlantic's vaults.

It's possible they may no longer exist. I remember reading years ago that there was a big fire at Atlantic's tape vaults sometime in the 70s and a lot of classic material was lost (e.g. outtakes from Aretha's recording sessions). Perhaps these two tracks went the same way?

Well I certainly hope those songs weren't among them! The other VU additional material (Loaded and Max's outtakes) in Atlantic's possession was saved at any rate, thank God. Fricke mentions the songs in his Fully Loaded liner notes, but then again he may only have read/heard about them, not actually heard them. There would be a legal hassle concerning post-Lou material anyway, ? la Final V.U., which wasn't officially credited to the Velvets but to the nine musicians appearing on there.

If these recordings still exist they HAVE to come out one or way or another... especially since "She'll Make You Cry" is a pretty decent rocker. To hear that with Sterl and Moe playing, YES PLEASE.

Tell you what, hearing that bend in the intro guitar as recorded on Squeeze, it must be a part originally devised by Sterling. It's so typical of him and Doug rarely ever bends his notes that way of his own accord.
