Nico biopic by David Mackenzie

This probably already got mentioned here, but I thought it deserves a bit more attention.

The project, described as dark and funny, also will revolve around the lives of the members of the Velvet Underground while Nico was involved with the group.

I can't help wondering who they'll cast as The Velvets and Nico. Should be pretty hard.

Does anyone have more information about the cast?

These movies always turn out crap or die before anything really happens. They were making a Germs one with some famous actor as Darby, but it got 'postponed' due to lack of funding. Chances are they would just dramatize Darby as an American Sid Vicious, which is true since he sucked. They probably would have done his death scene with the rumured writing in blood "Here lies Darby Cr" and then it trails off, which in fact never happened. They were also making a Joy Division pic with Jude Law as Ian, the status on that ia questionable. It would also suck since they would add Hollywood drama into the life of an already characteristic fella.


IN CONCLUSION!!!! I sincerely hope the movie doesn't get made lest they tarnish the VU.

There are actually two Nico films in the works. The one you mentioned, the one by David Mackenzie, was announced late last May. I've been kind of following it and haven't seen/heard anything since. No stars attached. It has a pretty well known director (he made 'Young Adam,' which was pretty nasty) screenwriters (David and Janet Peebles, who wrote 'Twelve Monkeys') and a production company (vagabond Films) but it hasn't started filming yet. The other one is by some dude named Mark Jay and is called "Nico - The End." Nico's being played by a model named Frida Show. The only other cast member information I came across was the guy playing Andy, whose name I can't remember but he was in one of the x-men movies. I'm scared that the Factory era's going mainstream. Sienna Miller's playing Edie Sedgwick in a movie called "factory Girl," Madonna's playing Candy Darling in an "upcoming Warhol/Factory film" or so they say and Cale himself's collaborating with a couple of people in a documentary about Warhol and the last half of his sixties (but I think that actually sounds pretty cool.)
Speaking of documentaries, I wanna Velvets doc!!! Fucking METALLICA has a documentary and they SUCK! There's Southbank, Channel 3, blablabla, but I didn't think they were that great. They were really short and had tons of filler, like long extended clips of New York traffic, and this shit always, ALWAYS focuses on just the Warhol part and then gives a couple of sentences about WLWH on. Maybe I'll just go make one myself. Anyone wanna lend me about a couple of million dollars and a good camera? I'lll be careful, I swear.
And call me weird, but I want to know what became of Steve Sesnick.

No, no, you're not weird at all. I'm dying to hear/see what Sesnick has to say of all of what's happened. It will be the BS Monologues all the way (or perhaps not?) but I wanna hear it anyway.

I think the only way a full & fitting VU doc will come out is following Lou's death (not that I wish that!). The ITV Southbank show doc and many others skip past the Yule years and push Lou & to a lesser extent John as the genii of the group. Yes of course they are but hey, it was a BAND! And Doug, Sterl Moe and Nico were as much a part of it as Lou & JOhn.

Can't see Doug & Lou in the same docu...There's still too much bad blood!!If someone tries to fit Doug in Lou would probably drop out or threaten legal action if the story is not told in his way!

SPeaking of movies & Yule, did anyone notice that High Fidelty used two VU songs - both of which Yule sang lead? (Who Loves the Sun & Oh! Sweet Nuthin')

It won't become mainstream. Warhol is mainstream, but he's always been. No subculture has ever taken off.

I was at Hot Topic today and they had the Banana shirt. I rolled my eyes and then I bought a Rolling Stones t. Love that Charlie Watts.
I'm disappointed more people don't interview Doug, he's a good talker. Same with Billy, who seems really funny from that modern drummer interview awhile back.

The people who already know and are into the scene
will go see the movies , the people that don't won't.

It may turn a few people on that don't know ,
which isn't a bad thing.I for one wish they were
atleast a little more mainstream.

I don't have any Velvet coverbands anywhere even
close to me. I heard people mentin them on this board,
but there is just is no such thing near me.The only velvet's
songs you hear on the radio would be Sweet Jane and
Rock n Roll.Maybe Pale blue eyes one or twice.

Hell, Last time I saw John Cale the club wasn't even
half filled!! That's not right at all.
Shit, I wish enough people were going that he did
multiple nights.

I'll wait to pass judgement once I see the movies.
I think it would be nice to see Nico in a movie as
someone other than the girl sucking off Jim Morrison
in a elevator.
