*** V.U. SONG CONTEST - SECOND ROUND ***

Post by arjan »

The First Round of the Velvet Underground, where 36 well-known Velvets songs were joined by the 28 songs that survived the preliminaries, ended last week and again there were some close matches.

As we move to the Second Round, I expect matches will grow ever harder and run even closer... Once again, there will three matches each day and since there are only 32 songs left now, this will mean the Second Round will take only a week to complete. As an introduction, the first match will start today.

There is one hitch in my plan, though, and that is the awarding of the prize I promised when the Song Contest started (for those tuning in just now, see the sticky post for further details). The book will definitely be awarded, but the way in which this will be done has become somewhat undefined. When I started the polls, I assumed that it was still possible for the owner of the poll to see which people had voted (the way it was when the forum started), allowing me to keep tabs on who had attended the polls most. The current version of the forum does not allow for this. Ferges kindly agreed to look into it but could not find any easy solution and I did not, of course, want to force him into re-installations purely for the polls' sake. So, I humbly apologise for this organisational cock-up.

Now, I could easily ask everbody to sign this post and draw a name from a hat to award the prize, but that seems too easy. Anyone, therefore, got a (feasible) suggestion how to award the prize? Predict the percentage score of the overall winning song, perhaps? Other suggestions?

predicting the winner & percentage seems like a good one - you'd have to have a time limit and have the competition closed pretty soon so people voting later would have no advantage.

But I don't want a book! I want all of Simonm's VU collectables!!

Hey, I'm sure I'd fall for Simon's assets any day of the week too, but it's not just a book -- it's Michael Leigh's The Velvet Underground! Seedy Sixties sensationalism! Who could ask for more? :D
