This is my effort to put together a comprehensive round up of Lou Reed's 1977 tour.

It's been a long time in preparation. With regard to the quality, a large part of it is very good to EX.

I can hear the roots of the 1978 tour arrangements in the August '77 backing vocal laden versions of Sweet Jane, waiting for the Man, and Satellite of Love.

Now, you can't please everyone, so please, if this is not for you, there are blogs and downloads to create something like this for yourself...I do think it's good enough to share, and no-one has to download this.

If this is for you, enjoy.

Technical details

Tracks from

(1) Punk Festival, Mont De Marsan, France 7 Aug 77
(5) Evenementenhal, Groningen 2 May 77
(6) Regent Theatre, Albury 1 Nov 77
(9) Amusement Park, Grona Lund 12 Aug 77
(7) Friedrich Ebert Halle, Ludwigshafen 24 Apr 77

Were processed in Audacity to widen the sound, this re-work would usually consist of the following -

-9db decrease (as the mixing and combining needs space)
+6% speed increase
double up the tracks, add .01 sec delay to one of the channels, split channels and mix either side (balance achieved through trial and error)
Combine above doubled up track with untouched track with the latter at a higher level. The above mixing while giving a nice widening effect I am more than aware can sometimes sound artificial to some, and I have found combining it with the untouched file means a balance is achieved between the raw sound of the original and the mixed version. Studios used - and I'm sure still do - used to resort to all sorts of double tracking and compression effects and the bottom line is this method I found by trial and error sounds good to me and others. Those who do not approve or find it does not sound good to them - no-one is forcing you to download this.
Voila...I listen to live recordings in headphones for the most part, and many people listen in headphones / earphones these days.
This may sound better to many like that, and I am aware that through conventional speakers this sort of mix / re-work may or may not sound as good as an untouched version. It's very subjective, and very much down to individual preference. I am not doing samples of this as the sound quality, while largely very good, varies, and there are so many sources, the downloader who is unsure about this can simply pick one or two tracks to ascertain how good this is.

Speed adjustment was carried out on tracks from these concerts

(4) Zurich 18 April 77
(7) Friedrich Ebert Halle, Ludwigshafen 24 Apr 77
(9) Amusement Park, Grona Lund 12 Aug 77
I listened through all the concerts, and I don't believe Lou got everyone to play a tone lower in any one gig. Once more, I state, you do not have to download this if you feel the way I present things is not for you.

The odd minor re-tuning of some of the rest of the tracks was carried out where I felt necessary, very minor hiss reduction (I do not believe in hiss removal, for the record, as it removes music), or bass reduction, again to get a balanced and where possible consistent sound, while still acknowledging these are different concert recordings with different dynamics.

WANTED

Lou Reed Paris 14 April 77 from a tape source...
I've heard a horribly 'streamed' sounding version of this...the tape underneath sounds like it's a great stereo recording, but there's ugly diginoise all over it.
A tape sourced version of this would be wonderful.
