Velvet bootlegs
Im new here, ive always visited the site, just never thought to post on the forum. Anyway, im a huge VU fan but recently i seem to have gotten the fevah, i need vu bootlegs! What im looking for specifically is Caught Between the Twisted Stars. Does anyone know where i could get a copy, approximate price, etc...? Im also looking for Live at End Cole Ave, The First Night, and...you know what, I'll take any bootlegs i can get. I cant find anything off of ebay, any tips on hunting some down?
I had a dream where I bought a v-5008 with full banana for 5 dollars...
if you want to buy 'proper' bootlegs, there are a few places online, including Kostek's, but I would reccommend getting CD-Rs of the stuff instead, which is cheaper and you make contact with other fans - there's a Yahoo group of people who collect and trade VU boots - see http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/jimjims
It's ok if you haven;t got anything to trade - some people will do you a B&P deal (where you send them Blank CD-Rs and some cash for Postage).
PS if you are excited by the 'Warhol Museum' boot on the VUAS site - avoid it!! it is pretty much totally unlistenable, and there are now filtered, and processed versions circulating that sound much better (although they are from the same crappty boot to begin with).

Hmmm... I know that there's something wrong with me, but I don't find the Warhol Museum boot to be totally unlistenable. I don't even have the new improved version (but would be happy to trade for it). I've listened to it a couple of times in the past week and if it wasn't for the door-slamming and what sounds like squeaky shoes it would be a lot better. That said, it's a pity we can't get hold of a copy of the original tape.
For those who do not know, the Andy Warhol Museum bootleg is not the only bootleg of that source availbale. Word has it that someone close to the source was able to get a copy direct from the CD that visitors are permitted to listen to at the museum in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
I know, because I have heard this perfectly clear boot and it sounds fantastic. Who knows if it will ever slip into the "Trader World," but be aware that it exists!

There are various reasons, many of which have to do with arguments between Lou, Cale, the record companies, etc.... Several of the tracks were to have appeared on remasters, but no luck thus far.

another HUGE problem is the Warhol Trust/Foundation itself. imagine the endless fighting over how much credit Warhol would get. The 'move back' Valleydale tapes is a good example rec during the EPI tour by Dick Fenton and the electrical extention cord was loaned by the VU road manager. hard to imagne 'they' would even be able to agree on what to have on the front cover or title. 'Warhol's EPI Live' 'Live EPI VU' 'VU Live EPI'. Fenton would have to get a big credit for rec it and I doubt any of the partys involved would be willing to do that.mg196 wrote:There are various reasons, many of which have to do with arguments between Lou, Cale, the record companies, etc....
