An Evening of Velvet Underground Covers in Islington, London

Post by Doctor Bob »

Hi everyone, season's greeting etc.

I am happy to announce that my band The Underground Velvets will be headlining at the prestigious punk venue The Hope and Anchor on Upper Street, Islington in London, England on Friday 14th January 05.

We will be playing either one long set or 2 short sets depending on whether people in the audience have a curfew/school in the morning 8)

We'll be playing material from all 4 Velvet Underground albums as well as the odd outtake and our interpretations will incorporate studio versions, Live '69, Max's, and Velvet Redux as well as some personal touches.

We'll have 2 support acts playing from 8.45 and we will be taking the stage around 10pm. Entry will be ?6 (?4.50 concs). Venue details can be found at http://www.bugbearbookings.com/pages/ha.htm

If you would like to be added to the mailing list or just want to drop us a line, e-mail undergroundvelvets@hotmail.com

I hope some of you can make it, and please do come and say hi if you do!

Damn. It's always in Europe... :(

The Hope And Anchor, doesn't that place have some history? I think I've read that Joy Division and/or the Clash had played there.

[Edit: Ah, just noticed you referred to it as "the prestigeous punk venue" which pretty much answers my question. Good luck with the gig, wish I could go.]

Hey Dr Bob!
(I've been meaning to ask: is your name from the Muppets' spoof medical soap, or am I just showing my age?)
Will try and get down to see the Underground Velvets.
It's about 7 yrs since I last went to the Hope & Anchor.
[My band headlined and we didn't get paid. It was the 30th anniversary of Jayne Mansfield's death.]

Chance: you always said you wanted to make it to London someday, why not make it this January, its gotta be done!

Simonm: I was unaware of any Muppets connection but then never was a huge fan, more a Sesame Street man personally. Look forward to seeing you at the gig, hope you enjoy the band!

I need a cheap ride to the gig. Anybody have any familiarity with catapults?
