The new vinyl version of The Quine Tapes

Post by feelingfresh »

.

Not only is it vinyl, it's been remastered. So I'm really interested to hear how different they sound. Can anybody post a sample?

I can't post a comparison, but I can tell you that the remastered vinyl is revelatory. It's literally night and day compared to the CD. You will love it.

Hello everybody.

I'm new to this forum, as you can see. I registered yesterday after reading something in a Spanish music forum which I would like to ask you about. I hope any of you can bring some light into my concerns...

The point is that they were discussing about the Quine Tapes Sundazed vinyl release, and somebody pointed to the existence of a different version of these tapes with much better sound: He said the The Trip owner recorded these concerts directly from the soundboard mixer (so the sound is really amazing). And he said he had that improved version!

I don't say I don't believe him (because I do), but it sounds pretty weird to me Sundazed had released those tapes if they knew about the existence of the improved tapes... Maybe they did not know about them, but I would say this is pretty unlikely too (I understand they perform a deep search before releasing any record).

Has any of you listened to these tapes? I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, I've been searching your forum and I haven't found anything at all (I cannot find any 'Search' tool, I'm sorry if it's my fault).

By the way, the same guy in the Spanish forum said a VU forum in which he's involved (could be this one here, I don't know) had privately released the Boston Tea Party 1968/69 concerts. But he stressed the fact of these taped being private (I asume the improved Quine Tapes recordings are under the same circunstances) and I'm Green with envy since I read that... Sharing is that nice! :)

Let me know if you have any information about these matters. I though I was a huge VU fan until I came into this forum: You, guys, you seem to be the real ones! :)
If someone can help me here, it's you.

Thanks in advance, and thank you for letting me be part of your community.

I have been on this forum for years (since the old version) and I can tell you I thank my lucky stars EVERY FUCKING DAY! It is a place where VU fanatics like myself can get answers to almost anything. I unfortunately cannot answer any of your questions, but would like to welcome you to the group. I have been a fanatic and collector for over 35 years and some of the posters on here make me feel like a complete amateur. I don't know SHIT compared to these guys. But I devour every post, hoping my feeble brain can still do the job. When the site was down for a couple weeks, I went into a panic until the content returned. I can tell you that as a fan of Lou, John or the Velvets this IS the place; and again, welcome. :)

I think the person you mentioned is talking about the Matrix soundboard tapes, which do exist, and contain some of the same versions as the Quine tapes. The person in possession of the Matrix tapes wont release them as a deal hasn't been reached. We would all like to hear them but all we have are a few samples that are widely available. The Professor Boston Tea Party tapes were privately released through this forum a number of years ago, but are now also widely available.

By the way there is a search tool - top right of the page. Welcome to the forum.

Thank you for your replies, velvetfan and nick257.

I wonder if you could help me finding these Matrix soundboard samples nick257 has mentioned, I'm pretty curious about them.

Thank you all for your hospitality, by the way. I'm quite sure you will hear about me and my VU concerns every once in a while. :)

Well, I've just found the samples nick257 has mentioned. It has been as simply as googling it. :)
They sound amazing, don't they? I've just downloaded it and I'm really flipping out. I had never heard the Velvets in concert with such a good quality. Never. It's a pity the songs are just excerpts...

(there's no way to obtain the full songs, right?)
