Recording Date for Ride Into The Sun instro on Another View

Post by Chris M »

According to Oliver's site this track was recorded during the "lost" 4th album sessions at the Record Plant in 1969. Does anyone think this track sounds more like it was done during on of the various post WL/WH pre 3rd album sessions wiith Cale? Do we have any proof one way or another? In any event this version is positively sublime.

I've never heard this track with vocals - are the vocals any good? If a version with vocals exists why did they use the instrumental on Another View?

Thanks, Chris

Funny that you think so, as the writing credit actually is Reed/Cale/Morrison/Tucker. But the track is definitely a 1969 lost album effort, check out the vocal version on the What Goes On box set. It has Lou on vox and Doug on backing vocals. Besides, the arrangement leans far too heavily on guitar with only minimal piano and bass to be a Cale involvement. Anyway, the vocal version sounds like an test acetate based on an earlier version of what ended up on Another View (less guitar parts to these ears). It also sounds a bit tinny and crackles, which probably explains why they didn't use it for the comp.

i agree that but the drums doesn't sound Moe at all. How about a '70 one during the Loaded sessions?
