That being said, I may be parting with a prized item from my collection so anyone with deep pockets out there who's interested in an original absolutely mint white label dj copy of Leave Her for Me/So Blue, drop me a note.

Here is a copy started on eBay for $399. Unless this is you Sal.

Then I would guess yours will go for over $800 minimum. Let me know how you do, buddy. Ps, I was paging through all my issues of your Fierce Pup VU fanzines the other day, including the deluxe banana overlay. A true labor of love my friend. I'm very happy I have a complete set to be able to go back to and enjoy. thanks for all your hard work.

Can somebody explain to me why this bootleg is in a bidding war and currently is at $388.00USD?! I have this and have seen copies sell for between $20 to $50 over the last few years. Is it autographed by Warhol or something? Anybody?

Here is another copy of Screen Test with b&w cover starting bid $124.99! and there is already a bid! I'm baffled. :?

Only reason I can think of is that people are trying to put together a complete collection of all the VU vinyl
boots. This one scarcer than most? You don't see as many around as you used to. If this came out in '87 its already 24 freakin' years old.

Wouldn't you pay hundreds of dollars if you didn't have it? The Screen Test record is such a personal expression of love for the band. It oozes sentimental value. It's definitely one of the best bootlegs of them all. Furthermore, an eBay buyer may not be aware that the entire bootleg discography of The Velvet Underground is available for downloaded. An eBay buyer may be after the audio as well.

I just wish I'd bought a box of them back in 1987! BTW I dont remember my copy having "Andy Warhol" stamped on the inner sleeve.

I think it has more to do with bootleg values which can be variable to say the least. I bought 'Searchin For My Mainline' 3LP box set for $75, but that can go for alot more. Same with 1966 LP that can fetch $100 other times $25. Before the internet some of these items were impossible to get (at any price) it was a case of trawling round record fairs on the off chance. The dealers fixed the prices so they were high as they could afford to wait for the right buyer.

I would say that Ebay has lowered bootleg values generally and alot of the stuff that was said to be very rare can turn up there on a monthly basis. Its the same with the Mono Torso Banana LP which I thought was very very rare (before the internet) now its much easier to get hold of (if you have the funds!) they seem to be available on a weekly basis. If you're picky about the vinyl/whitemess of cover it will take a bit longer but there seem to be lots of 'em out there..

Torrents have had an effect too - the only way to listen to these LPs in the 70/80s/90s was to trade cassettes then CDRs or buy them, now you can download them in minutes with the artwork the item in question has lost some of its appeal - but not for me I love 'em, they are a document of the times and mark important stages in VU history.

According to The Velvet Underground Web Page, the red version and the monochrome version (the one in the auction) have the "Andy Warhol" stamp.

I see now that my copy is an original 1985 edition, which if I remember correctly I bought (new) by mail order via a press ad (in Record Collector?)
