I'm always struck at how beautiful this design was when I see the peeled pink version. The VU&N in my mind is the yellow banana and this lends an element of freshness to the pink one but it's more than that as the cover becomes softer warmer and with more of an early Warhol feel that I admire. The pinks are lovely on the eye. Also, I really like the construction of those American LPs - the thick card with the papered, printed surface. What a fantastic thingness it takes on in that photo. I want it. But I recently bought a cheap bad unplayable copy of the peeled LP just for this reason.

My copy has the whole image much lower down that the one one ebay. This one looks good with the whole banana more centred and even space above and below. In fact this one looks to be a different printing ? the pinks deeper, the black is offset ? with 'peel and warhol' further up in relationship the 'nana.

My cheap copy which has the gold and blue MGM label inside.

I'm shocked, here is the other Syracuse album with Lou involved. Is time I've seen them in years.

Well, I did something I swore I'd never do; I sniped a VU item on eBay. It is the MGM & Verve 1967 Sampler LP - The Velvet Underground. I have NEVER seen this on sale anywhere, not eBay either in the last 10 years at least. The seller happened to have his email address in the body of the ad (an eBay no no) but I made an offer quite a bit above the GBP 2.99 start price and he went for it, and it is on it's way. It is a vital missing piece from my collection, and I know the Music Factory promos went sky high, so I think I got a deal, and a good bit cheaper than auction would have brought, in effect outpricing me. Oh well, I feel a bit guilty, but when it arrives, I think the guilt will fade. :)

What year was this one?

EDIT: The ad says: History of Syracuse Music 7 Ronnie Dio (Lover) Lou Reed (Cycle Annie) Elf (Sit down honey/LA 59) etc. Limited edition. Elf released their LA/59 album in '74, so this is at least '74.

Well this very good copy of this rare poster sold for $599. The other one in much worse condition still sits on eBay for a Buy It Now price of $3000! I think it will sit there for a while longer. :|
