New VU documentary coming

Post by velvetfan »

There is a new VU docu coming in March called "Vanishing Point" Don't have many details except below:
VELVET UNDERGROUND Vanishing Point (2010 UK DVD - Forged in the white light, white heat of the New York avant-garde scene in the mid 1960s, The Velvet Underground blazed a trail so far ahead of their contemporaries they often appear to have dropped fully formed into the history of popular music. Aside from the image and iconography, so perfectly designed by maverick manager Andy Warhol, the experiments with form and sound that worked in tandem with crucial melodies and outrageous lyrics, moved infamous music writer Lester Bangs to declare that the Velvets 'started modern music'. 'Vanishing Point' is the finest documentary film about the group yet to emerge and features a wealth of material).

I hate to be a bubble burster but looking at the cover, it looks like it says "a film by Tom Barber."
I'm pretty sure Tom was the producer/director of Under Review, so it may be a repackaging of that. There may be additional footage. I know they shot hours and hours of interviews.

D'oh, I forgot about Under Review... so I guess it will be more of a repackaging job than something new.
Well there have been some VU bubbles that did burst... aren't we used to that? :(
Any hint if there is something in the pipeline that would make us VUers happy?

Yeah, a film by Tom Barber is in the description. I am willing to bet it is just a repackaging job, like the Lou Docu from PBS that has 3 releases I believe. But as the eternal optimist, I will hope that it includes the long lost VU performance from Cleveland's TV show, Upbeat! I am confused because Olivers site seems to show that there were 2 appearances? Not sure but in my eternal childlike mind, I can hope. After all our long suffering Saints are in the Superbowl! :D

When is someone going to finally release on DVD, the 1993 VU documentary, "IN CURIOUS", I saw the premiere of, on the big screen at NYC's FILM FORUM?...It was only released on VHS in Japan many years ago, & was one of the most enjoyable depictions of the band during their reunion tour...
Lou playing a solo acoustic HEROIN is a highlight!...

Curious was also shown on the BBC December 1993, during their 8hour VU marathon.

not the BBC, but Channel 4 (oft repeated mistake).
