Re: Nobody's talkin about the Sundazed singles box??
Unfortunately my turntable was unrepairable (or too expensive to repair) and I am trying to get my finances in order to buy a new unit. I want a fairly nice table this time; not one of those $20,000 STATE OF THE ART dealies, but at least a good $6-700 dollar unit and I just don't have it now. I can also tell you that the discs, by touch, feel a bit thin or light. I haven't weighed them or compared them to my originals, but they seem a tad on the light side. I will weigh them later in comparison and get back to everyone. I wouldn't count on me relaying anything about audio quality, etc. any time soon; sorry.arjan wrote:Good! Just got mine!
I´m in the office so can not tell anything about the mix/sound.
Not having the originals at hand neither can not compare the weight, but do not seems lighter to me. Will do later.
NBice to have the postcard that includes a pic of the Original Master tape for the ATP/MIrror single (as in the PSAS box)
Color of the Verve Promo labels here is kind of light green instead of the light blue. The yellow MGM promos match more the originals
The PS
I have never had one of those in my hands, so can not compare. From top of my head (will check it later) I would say the ATP back cover of the PS reads "I´ll be yopur Mirror b/w ATP" but not 100% sure.
The info sheet printing is a bit weak (imo) but could be intended to look say 60´s style.
Great box, no doubt ... and fully agree with Rick ... could it goes for more that the $40.00 they are asking

Re: Nobody's talkin about the Sundazed singles box??
I have had a quick listening to "Heard" and sounds great.
My turntable isn´t in a great shape neither but , ok. I have compared this mono 7" rendition of "Heard" with my Yellow Mono Promo WL/WH Album and i would say that the mix is different. Same take, anyway.(I´m not any good describing mixes as a lot of people over here are, sorry
)
I would say that the bass is much clear and up in this mix. Probalbly Lou voice a bit mixed down.
Mater tape label, as seen in PSAS box reads tha Old Version is for "...single mono + stereo album"
So the New Version is still unheard ... by the way i just noticed that it is listed as "I heard her call YOUR name", not only a div cversion but a complete different song
ATP PS: As it is seen on Ignacio´s Feed Back (only place I have seen the back cover of this PS) back cover should read: "I´ll Be Your Mirror b/w All Tomorrow´s Parties" and not duplicate the front cover as they have done in this re-issue. A mistake?

Re: Nobody's talkin about the Sundazed singles box??
Well guys, here's a shocker: I weighed my original promo 45's and the new singles set and here are the results:
original wl/wh b/w hscn with MGM Sleeve 1.2 oz Sundazed same with plain sleeve 1.5 oz
original Femme b/w Sunday AM MGM sleeve 1.1 oz Sundazed same with plain sleeve 1.5 oz
original Mirror b/w ATP with Verve sleeve 1.2 oz Sundazed same with plain sleeve 1.5 oz
original WGO b/w Jesus with MGM sleeve 1.2 oz Sundazed same with plain sleeve 1.5 oz
I don't have any gloves and didn't want to handle them with out gloves so I left them in the sleeves but it looks like I was very wrong when I suggested that the copies seemed to be a bit lighter; the repos are actually a bit heavier. I had one lone MGM sleeve which comes in at .2 oz and one of the plain sleeves that comes with the Sundazed set weighs in at .2 oz also, so the new repos are about .3 oz heavier than the originals. How's that for minutia? BTW, any thoughts yet on my question about the original ATP pic sleeve being a bit glossy because the Sundazed Pic sleeve seems more flat? Thanks

Sundaze PS carries ATP b/w Mirror on both sides .... mistake? .... fake-prevention?
Any comments?

Re: Nobody's talkin about the Sundazed singles box??
As Sal says, the mix of I Heard Her Call My Name is insane. At first I thought that there was a mistake in the pressing as Lou's opening vocals ("here comes count down...' ) are way down in the mix and actually sound muffled. Then they pick up a little with 'Ever since...'. Sterling's guitar is up and so it Cale's bass. For the first 30 seconds or so it sounds like a kind of lo-fi garage sound and then later the sound gets bigger with more of the impact we know. But overall the balance is restored so that you can hear Sterling's lovely rhythm guitar work and Cale's bass, which is really great. Cale's bass sound is amazing on this mix and then also makes you realised how low the bass is in the mix on most of the White Light LP.alfredovu wrote:Do they use the same "old" version as in the original single??? ... or the "new version"salmercuri wrote:The single version of "I Heard Her Call My Name" is nuts!
Sal
I always thought of this song as a blues song and would say that this mix emphasises that aspect and in some strange way normalises it when compared to the LP version.
It's great to hear this piece of history and overall the boxset is worth it's weight (see above!). Hearing these songs as singles with their mono mixes really changes their impact as a listening experience. Also the singles are very well physically produced and feel authentic to me ? the vinyl, the labels, the brown paper sleeves make them special. Well done, Sundazed.
One question to those who might know. Does this boxset with its unreleased mix of IHHCMN indicate that the embargo on the release of any new Velvet Underground material has finally been lifted???

Can anyone say what mixes are used for Stephanie Says and Temptation Inside Your Heart?
Thank you!
Thank you!

Stephanie Says is the 1969 mix with all the backing vocals. I would guess the same is true of Temptation, but haven't had a chance to compare. It does sound great on the single.
As Sal says I Heard Her Call My Name is Nuts, but with Sterling's guitar higher in the mix, it helps bridge the gap between the original and the way they played it live during the reunion. Cale's bass now revealed is as freaky as Lou's guitar. It's hard to imagine that either mix was ever considered for a single.
