My 7 VU LP boots which is the most valuable?

Since the topic of LP bootlegs is current here I finally did a quick inventory of my goodies I bought back in the mid-late 80s when I lived in NYC. All have been kept in outer/inner plastic sleeves, no damage, no warps, etc. Without a doubt my personal fav is the VU 66 boot that I could have bought at least three copys at different times! Have some fun and cast your vote.

#1 VU 1966
104025, USA, June 1981. Bernd Baierschmidt. Bernd's girlfriend was the mysterious cover girl.

#2 ETC.
Plastic Inevitable FIRST 1. First reissue 1981. Has ordinary cover, same looks/design as the orig silk-screen cover.

#3 AND SO ON
Plastic Inevitable SECOND 1 . First issiue 1982.

#4 SCREEN TEST : FALLING IN LOVE WITH THE FALLING SPIKES
shining staRecords DOM 001, UK, 1985. 1985 original pressing with black/blue/white cover. 'Andy Warhol' is stamped in green on the white lable and inner sleeve. Half of the 'A' is stamped on the inner sleeve and part of the 'O' and the entire 'L'. Oddly this is on the B side and parts of the white lables have a rough surface. The A side of the inner sleeve has:
PATENT Nos.1,125,555 MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN G.H at the bottom.

#5 A DRUG HIT SALLY INSIDE / LIVE 1968
Clean Sound 1017, USA, 1986. Picture disc.

#6 THE WARLOCKS / THE FALLING SPIKES
Fantastic Plastic FS66A, USA, 1986

Its a difficult question, some rare boots i've found cheap in the local s/h record shop and some lesser material cost me a fortune! Most boots seem to be available if you wait long enough on ebay but 1966 LP has a special attraction to most VU collectors. It took me 10 yrs to track a copy down. In terms of value and collectability this would be your 7 LPs in difficulty to find / value in my humble guesses..

02. SCREEN TEST : FALLING IN LOVE WITH THE FALLING SPIKES
03. A DRUG HIT SALLY INSIDE / LIVE 1968
04. THE WARLOCKS / THE FALLING SPIKES
05. LIVE AT THE BOSTON TEA PARTY

Side A/B were later named 'Melody Laughter' & 'The Nothing Song' on the "If it's too loud for you, Move Back! cd set in 97.

and here's one odd little fact never posted to any list untill now.

The Bernd record has the number 104025 on the back cover, lables, and stamped on bolth sides of the the vinyl. In a typical cd player the total time for bolth 'Move Back' CDs is 104:24. I've noted with Nero reads Total Time for disc 1 = (50.00.26) and disc 2 = (54.24.61) so the TT for the two sets are 104.24.87. The Bernd record number 104025 is curiously close to the total time of the two unedited sets!

Regarding the ETC. LP (perhaps And So On...), of its several reissues, it is the issue with the silk-screened artowrk on the album jacket that is the more collectible one.

Tape: audience, 105 mins. Taped by Dick Felton. It also circulates under
false pretenses as "Lawrence, Kansas, 1966" or "Cleveland, 4/11/66". The
best source is the Move Back! 2-CD set which offers an unedited version
of this legendary recording. Some versions of that tape have one minute
edited out in the middle of Waiting For The Man. Also at the end of that
song you can hear two barkings which are not on the original version. My
opinion is that this version was dubbed "through the air" with a
microphone in front of a speaker playing the original tape with some
bonus noises: the barking dog...

Doug Snyder: "This time one of us - Dick Felton - took a tape recorder.
(...) Their equipment manager Dave Faison helped us with an extension
cord for our mono recorder. (...) The tape Dick made of the concert ends
with him saying, "I'm scared to play it back. I really am." Dick's tape
has been bootlegged many times over the years - but never by him. The
best known boot is Velvet Underground 1966, which was put out by Bernd
Baierschmidt. The LP had Melody Laughter on one side, and The Nothing
Song on the other - but were just called "side one" and "side two".
Bernd's girlfriend was the mysterious cover girl. Bernd died as the
result of a motorcycle crash a couple years later, so I can tell this
about him. He had been the one to see the Velvets before the rest of us
- probably before anyone else in Ohio, and for years was the cultural
arbitrer of Cincinnati from his perch at Kidd's Books. (...) A few
months after the EPI came to Ohio, Bernd Baierschmidt and Dick Felton
took the Valleydale tape to New York. They called the Factory and asked
for Andy. The voice said, "This Is Andy." They took Andy Warhol the
tape, and he made a copy."

As for 1966, Move Back!, and all the other permutations of this concert, I NEVER listen to them. I heard them once and they have been untouched for a couple years! I only have them on CD-R, but if I ever see them on LP, I am snatchin' them up!

BTW, Move Back! is supposedly "Digitally Remastered," but that is total bullshit. The only thing digital about that recording is the fact it has been transferred from vinyl to CD-R.

I have the two 'move back' cd-r's copyed from the orig silver CDs and I can assure you the CD set IS MASTERED from the orig Dick Felton tape. Whatever digital cleaning-up was done is not that important when the orig tape is used. It WAS released by Felton himself via a pressing plant in Japan in 97. I bought bolth the VU 66 LP and the THE WARLOCKS / THE FALLING SPIKES Fantastic Plastic FS66 LP and have listened to ALL of them more times than I can count over the years.

All the horrible drop-outs, parts of the music are edited OUT, and there are many of them on the 2 vinyl LPs, the garbled and distorted parts, the parts with the barking dog, are ALL GONE in the two 'move back' CDs. The 'move back' set is a god send comared to the LPs and one of the very few bootleg CDs that IS MUCH BETTER than the orig LPs but again that's because the orig tape was used. Go back and read what Doug Snyder said reg this.

what can I say? I've been a big fan of the Valleydale Ballroom tapes since that first VU 66 LP graced my turntable back in 85 and then I dubed it to cassette later that year so I would not wear out the Lp. My fav VU is when they do those long improv jam sessions with feedback, etc. My guess is most VU fans don't care much for that 'type' of VU but for me I'll take Nico's droning and Cale's ear splitting viola any day.
