Thanks, I didn't know what the blocked video was, and I did think it odd that the YouTube posting had survived.searchin4mymainline wrote: ↑27 May 2022 10:42
The blocked video isn't the "Guess I'm Falling In Love" video, which is still unblocked: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU2UNyDoN_M

Re: Guess I'm Falling In Love fake live version?
Hello all! Long-time lurker, first time poster. Think this is a pretty accurate transcription of the lyrics to this version of one of my favourite Cale-era tracks. There's a line in the second verse/second part of the first verse I could really use some help with. Any thoughts?
Guess I'm Falling in Love - Upbeat Version
"I got my fingers in my pockets
Carried down to my shoes
Hey now babe, I guess I"m falling in love
I got my penny, [at any rate?
It?] had me down to my feet
Hey sweet sweet, I guess I'm falling in love
I got my hand-bones liftin' up my pockets
I ain't got nothin' to lose
I get it ready, steady, ready, ready
I said that chick, "things gon' work out fine,
It's gonna work out alright"
Hit it!
[solo]
Got my hands in my pocket
It's reaching on down to my shoes
Hey now sweet sweet, I guess I'm falling in love
I got it ready, ready, steady, c'mon
Gonna move, move, move on outta here
Hey now baby, I guess I"m falling in love
I got my penny, and you're ready
I carry it down in my shoes
I get it on, like I just said it -
"It's gonna work out fine, work out alright"
Got my hands in my pocket
An' carry it down to my shoes
Hey now babe, I guess I'm falling in love
Yeah sweet sweet, I guess I'm falling in love
Sweet baby, I guess I'm falling in love"
Thanks in advance gang.

Nice work. Where you're hearing 'penny', I've been hearing 'benny and for 'sweet sweet', I've been hearing 'speed freak'. Making this version of the song about carrying Benzedrine. I've no idea if speed freak was a term in use at the time though.docandsally wrote: ↑20 Jun 2022 15:46 Hello all! Long-time lurker, first time poster. The line you have as 'I get it on, like I just said it' I've been hearing as 'I get it on, I get it steady.'

Yes, since I posted this question I found out about Cam Forrester. His documentary on Moe Tucker and recent VU cover versions have added so much to my understanding and enjoyment of the Velvet Underground. For me cover versions of the VU's songs are almost universally disappointing, his are amazing, and his explanations as to what he does also shows where so many go wrong. Firstly - Moe Tucker's drumming was indeed a key part of almost every track, and secondly, Lou Reed and to an extent Sterling too played with unusual turnings to their guitars which also changed the sound of those instruments. If Forrester ever gets a cover band going I'd go in a breath, he's like a one man "The Analogues" who do a similar thing for "The Beatles" music.

Lou uses the term "speed freak" in WL/WH right around the same timeElvis Plebsley wrote: ↑29 Aug 2022 22:53

Re: Guess I'm Falling In Love fake live version?
Thanks for the kind words my friend! I'm really hoping to get the tribute event/band going, but unfortunately I'm struggling to find enough people interested in taking part...so far I've been contacted by a few bassists and guitarists who seem genuinely passionate, but they're all quite far away from me (one of which is in Dublin, whereas I'm in the UK, for example), and to date I have not had any interest from any female drummers, I know Moe was a tomboy, but I really want to make the show as authentic as possible, and as such don't want a male to play her part. I've even considered teaching a non-drummer how to play her parts (an approach which I think would work out better than going with a trained drummer, as the latter would be too inclined to over-play the parts and add fills etc. (I know this as a drummer myself), but even finding a willing and commited participant has proven near-impossible.
If I do manage to get it together at some stage, and it has some success, my ultimate goal would be to hire the hall at the Sokol building in NY (formally The Gymnasium) and stage a VU tribute concert there, perhaps on the 60th anniversary of the original shows or something...but at the moment that's merely a pipe-dream!

I'd love to see you succeed at that, you are without a doubt the best interpreter of their music
