Vocal version of Guess I'm Falling In Love did exist

Post by iaredatsun »

Scan-reading the Jovanovic book Seeing The Light : Inside The Velvet Underground, I saw in chapter 17 a note about the mid-eighties comps.

Morrison made suggestions about what was in the vault and what could be used. He found a vocal-less take of ‘Guess I’m Falling in Love’ when it was discovered that the vocal take master had been damaged.

I wonder how damaged it was or is?

that's a shame. makes you wonder what else might be in the vault or what else could've been damaged.

I seem to remember a quote from Lou which credited Sterling with arguing for the release of the instrumental version. Lou was saying, "no-one wants to hear this shit" and Sterling replied that "the fans would really go for it. I reckon the vocal track for Ride Into The Sun existed, but got damaged at some point. Isn't one of the acetate versions with vocals the same track?

According to The MGM Labels book, Recording references for Wl/Wh sessions go from 103536 to 103546. There are no information on 103538, 42, 43 & 44, and two recording dates are stated: Sept 21 and 25
Who knows if these 4 cuts were not used or info is not available?

Guess i’ m Falling is dated in the Deluxe 45th 3-CD Set as recorded Sept 7, but there is no info in the Book.

Alfredo. Yes, weird about the discrepancy with the dates. I always wondered why Guess I'm Falling In Love does not sound like the rest of the WLWH material, so maybe it was recorded earlier.

I think we know that one of those missing numbers is a second recording session for Here She Comes Now, don't we?

The session numbers you mention are here:
