Squeeze 50th Anniversary or Squeeze: Un-Squeezed Edition

Post by jt050501 »

How great would it be if Squeeze got an anniversary box set like the other albums? Imagine Squeeze remastered from the master tapes vice the vinyl with extra goodies, like the Atlantic demos with Yule-Tucker-Morrison-Powers, the entire FM Concertgebouw show from 1971 speed corrected and in its entirety, maybe a poster or something inside as well, etc. I'd love that. Would anyone be interested in something like that?

I love the idea of it! I'd probably buy it, listen to the whole thing thing through once.. and wish I hadn't.

Wasn't Arjan at one time going to try and make a matrix of the FM(/web stream) sources of Concertgebouw? That would've been cool to here.

Hi!

I've actually been considering something similar. I've been active on the Lou/Velvet Facebook forum trying to gauge support for 'better' Squeeze-era tracks to replace some of the least liked things on there. General consensus was that Send No Letter, Crash and Jack & Jane should go. Current favourites to take their places are the Moe/Willie/Walter version of I'm Sticking With You, and a much clearer version of Pretty Tree Climber - a regular feature of the '71 Velvets' sets - from Willie. I've been in touch with Willie to research the various other tracks of his the Velvets played during his time with them, and the list is longer than you'd expect. I could run the polling here too, if anyone is interested? I think there's a decent album in there somewhere. It's just all about finding it!

Also on this subject, I'd love to try and somehow get Doug's vocal from Moe's 2000 Terrastock performance of I'm Sticking With You onto the '73 version of the same song with Moe, Willie and Walter on it, but I can't find the Terrastock recording anywhere online. Does anyone have a rip of that track they'd be willing to share?

I've an MP3 of it at 320kbs. Not the best quality, but it's alright. Very quiet too.

That would've been awesome. He hasn't really been active in awhile though from what I can see which sucks.

Thanks to the kind person who sent me Moe and Doug's "I'm Sticking With You". It's quite surprising. Doug doesn't really sound much like Doug by this point. Sweet performance, though.
