It's nice that we finally get a real VU documentary, but at the same time it's like he says. It's not like it's a huge archive of visual material of the Velvets performing in concert or at Tv shows, to put it mildly. I hope the research turns up some more material at least.

Anyway, despite all this, I feel optimistic!

There's still stuff we haven't seen that hopefully he can get his hands on. Several Warhol films, probably 4 or 5 at least. Tiger Hop, Tarot Cards, Suskind Show, plus Danny Williams films. Plus Cale's unreleased collection. Then there's the Uptight TV show from the 60s that they appeared on 2 or 3 times. There's the Mod Wedding that was filmed.

There's stuff out there, it's just not online.

Yeah, you are right. I really hope they track down the Upbeat shows, even though chances are probably pretty small.
Heliczers Venus in furs seems to be restored too https://www.eyefilm.nl/news-from-the-ex ... collection

That's interesting...they way they describe it it's not the 1965 face painting performance, but one from November of 1968. Maybe they just got the dates wrong?

But Venus in Furs without Cale isn't really Venus in Furs as far as I'm concerned.

There is no 1968 version of Venus in Furs in Heliczer's filmography, unless he did a later re-edit, perhaps. In fact I'm not sure he even made a film after '65.

Of interest to VU fans will be that John Cale is in the cast of Heliczer's earlier film – Dirt, 1965. But as the planned 3 hour film was edited down to 12m, his appearance appears to be lost.

Was that really Sterling Morrison in the film?

The Film was shown at The Bridge Film Society ( 4th St. Marks Place) on March 9 to 15, 1966 as "Venus in Furs Meets the Velvet Underground"

I found this that it is really new to me

Never seen "colour" Venus in Furs film, neither the portion on the Factory gang eating pizza and Gerard doing "muscles".
I had seen stils or shorter portions of them playing at the Factory but not that long. Same for the Paraphernalia (from memory that one shot by Malanga)
