Not in physical format?! Bummer, man. How on earth can LRL not be remastered?! RNRA and LRL need to be remastered and reissued as a 2CD set. I remember Lou declining that back when RNRA was up for a remaster.
I never understood why, but Lou seemed to have a bug up his ass about LRL. He said no to the whole show being released together. But it wasn't because of the unreleased stuff since there were only 2 unreleased tracks and he ok'd both to be inserted into the middle of RnR Animal. So LRL was the only material he was refusing to have included. Then, when he remastered his catalog before he died, he did RnR Animal and Take No Prisoners, but no LRL. Seems odd, but Lou was odd.
LRL has two masterings. The 80s RCA PD 83752 CD and the 1989 RCA CD (which is the mastering that's been re-issued ever since). I've only heard the 1989, but hear the 80s CD sounds best. Anyone here have it?
Btw MJG196, on a completely unrelated note, do you know where I can find the Johnny Thunders Mondo Almighty #5 DVD? All torrent links I find are old and have no seeds.

I have to check which LRL I have. Interestingly, they did two shows that night. I wonder if tape exists from both shows...or if they actually did two shows.

Ack! No, I only have it on DVD and just sent it to a friend! The clips are all up on PooTube in generally the same quality.
1) CRAWFISH PROMO
With P. Paladin, a great promo.
2) "INNER TUBE" 1981, NYC
Johnny Does a great acoustic set. Segment also includes 2 electric songs filmed at Max's Kansas City, July 1980
3) MAX'S KANSAS CITY, NYC, 1979
Amazing B&W footage.
4) UNKNOWN LOCATION, NYC, 1978
Crazy footage, Johnny is every bit as screwed up as he was in the infamous Swedish video, He insults the audience and can barely stand. Johnny at his worst.

No, there has never been a proper release. The box tracks just had EQ applied in an attempt to improve the issue, but it wasn't actually corrected. My understanding is that for a proper correction, the album would need to be remixed (as Dolby was switched on during mixing, but the multis were not recorded with Dolby). Dolby can not actually be reversed. I really wish it would be remixed, but I think it's highly unlikely now.
I don't how to recognise whether Dolby was switched off or not, but I have heard the new masters of 'Lou Reed' and Transformer. The difference is marked. The LR tracks are far better than those versions featured on BTAE set. In general LR has good guitar sound, good rhythm and warmth. Ditto Transformer, which suddenly has a huge and detailed bass end. On first listen, gone is the harshness of the circa 2000 'remasters', and if they did this to the whole catalogue it would be nice.
I have Berlin handy too, but need to buy a huge box of Kleenex before I can tackle either 'Kids' or "Bed'.

I should explain - I posted the DR numbers for those HD tracks. Then realised how low those albums are rated. Personally I don't see any relationship between DR numbers and how good albums actually sound; the numbers for these tracks just seem to support my dubious feelings about DR as a some sort of de facto standard for evaluating mastering.
The 2015 version of the HD Transformer album is just '8' DR overall. The horrible 2002 CD is rated as overall '12' DR. That doesn't make any sense to me and so I think the DR numbers are misleading. But for those of you who do prefer numbers to ears, they are on the 'dr.loudness-war.info' website.

I've been trying to find that earlier RCA CD and there are no downloads anywhere and I can't even find one to buy.
That's interesting about the 2 nights. The flub on one of the remaster's bonus tracks makes me wonder if they only recorded one night. You'd think they'd have gone with a different take or made an edit if they had another performance to use.
Damn, I've been trying to get that DVD for a while. I have the Max's show on it's own DVD, but I can tell the Mondo has better quality from previewing my incomplete download. I'm not sure if I have any of the other footage.
How disappointing. The only interesting thing is the surround mix on Disc 6. Which leads to the question: why weren't the other albums released in 5.1? Or will they release 50th Anniversary boxes that include them
Why don't they ever press any of these anniversary releases to vinyl? Maybe not the entire
5-8 LP set, but maybe the highlights or extended album? I don't think the full-length version of Sweet Jane or Rock 'n' Roll have ever
been pressed to vinyl which is a damn shame.
