V.U. acetate up for sale again.

Post by bleach »

So how come they can't even be bothered to take some decent photographs of it, why use the same ropey scans of the label from the initial sale - makes this outfit look like complete amateurs. I use better pics for a $10 ebay auction..

And they're making some ugly "collectible" as an artifact of the auction. Give me a f-ing break.

""Media Artifacts

In honor of the history of the original acetate recorded by the Velvet Underground in 1966, Office of Johnston and Shuga Records created fifty-five high quality media artifacts.

Hand crafted from specially sourced walnut, this wooden 'LP' features a replica label from the Velvet Underground & Nico acetate, accented with letterpress prints created on a Vendercook printing press prevalent when the Velvets made their legendary recording. This is homage to one of the rarest recordings in Rock and Roll history.""

And they spelled Vandercook wrong.

Ever the hipster pose amongst VU fans, I found this quote from the purchaser and now seller to be hilarious:

"I?m a big Velvet Underground fan, but to be honest, I?ve never been a big fan of this album."

The media artefact, whatever the term 'media artefact' means, is pretty disgusting, even hideous in it's conception. Made out of walnut? About as appropriate to the era of the VU&N as inscribing a copy of the Naked Lunch on a wad of papyrus. A joke. But I guess the joke is on anyone who buys one.

I had all the same thoughts. That artifact, a real WTF? He's a big VU fan, but doesn't care for VU & Nico?? Must be more of a Squeeze-era fan.

This also answers the question of where this copy was hiding while Universal sourced the bootleg. I was hoping they had secretly bought it, but knew that wasn't the case when I heard the 45th Anni set.
