Is this possible to share link here?
Re: THE SURFSIDERS LP
Sorry guys I know it an unsuitable thing to ask, but I just have to while we're on it. Any possibility of sharing it? I found I only have lousy mp3's of it.

Re: THE SURFSIDERS LP
any definitive opinions/evidence on whether it's Lou or not? I can only find conjecture but to these ears,... yip.
Re: THE SURFSIDERS LP
I am 99% sure it is Lou singing on 2 songs. But that's based on aural evidence only - I've never seen any "real" evidence. I've heard quite a few interviews where Lou talks about the Pickwick days - even talks about "surfing songs", but he never says anything which confirms that he was on this LP.
And it doesn't quite fit in, catalogue-number wise with the other "known" Lou involvement LPs.
Anybody out there have a view?

Re: THE SURFSIDERS LP
I pulled the original LP off the rack and had another listen. The first thing that i didn't recall from the last listen is that it actually sounds quite good quality wise, yeah the songs are cheesy but overall I thought it was a fun enjoyable listen. It does sound a rush job though - quite a few of the songs have off pitch vocals, the instrumentation is generally not bad, especially the brass. It really shows how brilliant the Beach Boys were the Pickwick vocalists are really really straining to hit the highest notes and even then they are often v slightly flat.
OK so down to the nitty gritty most of the songs are far far too high for Lou - he could be in the background harmonising but it would be impossible to tell. I think the most likely song Lou sings is 'Little Deuce Coupe' - but his involvement is quite muddy and pushed back into the mix. The other possible Lou involvement 'Surfin'" i'm less sure about - its much more do wop so would be a much more obvious song for him to sing. There are a few verses early on that could be Lou then the rest of the song doesn't sound like him at all to me. Again its back in the mix so although the overall sound quality is v good its very difficult for your ears to pull it out from the mix.
Theres a list of recording equipment (which may well be bullshit) & frequency response rubbish on the back of the LP - could this be the original inspiration for the made up stuff on the back of Metal Machine Music!?

Re: THE SURFSIDERS LP
That was common to the packaging of many budget labels, and was a way of suggesting to prospective buyers a legitimacy the records did not actually possess. If Lou's notes were meant as satire it'd have been for the trend in general, rather than any specific example of it.Theres a list of recording equipment (which may well be bullshit) & frequency response rubbish on the back of the LP - could this be the original inspiration for the made up stuff on the back of Metal Machine Music!?
