John Cale by High or Hellwater (this could tribute JJ)

What does Lou Reed have that nobody sees but everybody suffers from? It's not "Lou Reed's Haemorrhoids" (The Bob Lazar Story found out about these somehow). It's a "Lou Reed State of Mind", such a perfect title, by Foster Timms.

For 'suffers' above read 'benefits' if you wish, but I think Lou without the angst would be a lesser artist.

There's also the song "Two Skaters" by Dutch art-rock band The Nits (YouTube), which references the VU:
Henk Hofstede wrote:Your sister in Montreal is sending an LP
of The Velvet Underground
We're steaming the walls of your brother's old room
Peel slowly and listen
It's off their best-known album, In the Dutch Mountains (1987), which sees singer Henk Hofstede explore memories of his childhood/adolescence.

And then there's "Shoulder Pads #2"(YouTube) by The Fall, which features the line:
Mark E. Smith wrote:They couldn't tell Lou Reed from Doug Yule
Ain't it the truth, BTW, with all the confusion about who sings on "I Found a Reason" and "She's My Best Friend"...

,. . . could be reference to David Bowie's encounter with ''Lou Reed'' outside Max's Kansas City, he found out after that the bloke he'd been talking to was actually Doug . .

I don't have the heart to search for Willie Alexander or Walter Powers.

Good find logic, thanks. If you listen to the progarchives link, it repeats the same 4 minute extract forever, that's quite fitting.

Now, surfing the net because of comments on another thread, there are references galore to "Ode to Street Hassle" by Spacemen 3. Just don't know how I missed this one way back then.

My interests and forums usually don't mix, but your reference to "Bob Lazar" caught my interest. Is this the same Bob Lazar from Area 51 who blew the lid off the Roswell incident? And if it is, what does he have to do with Lou Reed? What Bob Lazar story?

Hi velvetfan (and everyone else too)

The Bob Lazar Story is, apparently, a young band from New Zealand http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=5532 and does not feature anyone called Bob Lazar. So I guess the leader took the named from the supposedly infamous Bob Lazar of Area 51 fame.

I was simply quoting the song and band name from iTunes or somewhere. I had no idea that there was a real Bob Lazar who dabbled with flying saucer engines. A brief look at Wikipedia has enlightened me and the tale is either a) true or b) truly inspired.

And of course, the ultimate (self-)reference is in "Sweet Jane":
Lou Reed wrote:Standing on the corner
Suitcase in my hand
Jack is in his corset, Jane is in her vest
And me, I'm in a rock'n'roll band

-- Not to mention the self-reference in the 1993 live version:
Lou Reed wrote:Some people like to go out dancing
And then there's people like us, we go to a Velvet Underground concert
