Thing is, the Gymnasium tapes was just about to get released in a Bootleg Series Box with the two complete sets. Some bootlegger stole a production copy CD and we got half the record instead of the whole thing

Are you sure?
I had contact with alias GG (you remember: Thanks to GG for the tape) and he has the tape since a long time and this is not the stolen one.
A guy I know went to a dinner with Cale, about a year ago, and they had a talk about this. My info is from him, but there must have been other copies off course. Or Cale could be wrong, he assumed that the missing CD was the source.

16mm film, color, sound, 33 minutes

They will be out sometime in the next year.[/b]

SOUND & COLOR!!!!. 33 MIN ONLY. I CAN´T WAIT --- THE VELVETS LIVE TEA PARTY ´N COLOR´AUGUST 1967. THIS MUST ME A MILESTONE ON OUR VU LIVES.
I wouldn't get too excited just yet. Knowing Andy, he might not even have filmed them playing onstage - it could be half an hour of them unloading the bus and eating lunch. Which would still be cool, admittedly.

Nah, the Bootleg Series got shelved years ago. The Live at the Gymnasium LP was the only way we were ever going to hear that stuff.

mannn this is so ridiculous. I know this happens all the time. but lets be REALISTIC my life changes everytime a new VU recording appears. this is history! history to be soon lost or forgotten or misplaced. I would put so much of my time and resources (as I know soo many of us would) if it would make a difference. blah balah, how many times have they heard this. I would love to form a group of us to collectively put out rarities, bootlegs with all proceeds going to the people they belong to - i.e. the freakin VU. Just give us the freakin tapes and let our collective knowledge and amazement and joy and love proceed with the greatest collection of VU ever. I don't want a penny, I work 90 hours a week and I just wanna listen to the VU the whole time as my payment for my servitude. Who cares if we don't make any money,I sure don't. I just want these recordings released and the people who deserve the cash given it to em. I am so freakin naive and wasted forgive me. Get with it, get over your egos and disagreements and know that everyone of us will say you know on this recording lou RIPPED, moe RIPPED, cale RIPPED, sterling RIPPED, doug RIPPED, and angus RIPPED (if we're really lucky and get those). continue, oh not that you need to, to let the world know there shall be no better band, ever. I have every single sister ray recording in a playlist on my comp and all day almost every day I listen to it again and again and again and again and again. I listen to it at 3am when I wake up, at 7 am when I want to sleep and I can't, all day at work, RIGHT NOW, and you know even when I am sleeping I am listening to sister ray and dreaming the family dog, just oh 40 blocks away and the matrix oh like 20 blocks away were still there and "this is going to go on a while" down in the STREETS. get with it. grrr. my life improves by inqauntible (yeeha yeah, not a word) percentages everytime a new recording appears. give us some freakin numbers ya rats lets get these recordings out. not too fast, i wanna savor every lil one. i am so naive. I know it. I'm sorry. but faster. I shouldn't complain, its been like a new one a year and I love you sal mercuri for all you and everyone here does. I just can't believe people can be so caught up in whatever and not know that they change people lives thru their magic. I know the same thing goes on with la monte and ya ya but its music, its beauty, is it selfish or selfless? why'd ya make it then? oh I should go to bed. I never say anything here but I check this forum daily and not a single day goes by I don't listen to my massive collection of VU (thanks everyone!! nothing rare soooorrry) and freak out cause I get so excited. Make us some offers, lets put out some records. man am I naive and freakin dumb and so hopeful.

I will take care of distribution from our comapnies shipping warehouse. I will help finance the masterings, I will pay bribes. I donate so much of my business's profits to causes in tibet but i believe the inspiration from the new VU recordings will hep increase our profits and therefore help ...well everyone. argh. I am so happy and so frustrated. what can I do? someone tell me. save me from self destruction from lack of VU. i beg theeeeeeeee

Well ... can agree with you in some way (if I would understand 100% what you say) but take it easy ... we have got in the last 10 years more that anyone here would ever expect ... no?
Full Shympony of Sound Film, Gym Tapes, Dolph Acetate, Warhol Tapes, PSAS CD1, Quine Tapes, Loaded Tapes (I do not like this that much but I know some of you do) ; sure i miss something. Hey ... not that bad. We have got a lot!
As "warlock" says "Imagine what we're gonna see in 10 yrs"

This will be a lovely, sweet, tortuose path that we will walk all together. Enjoy

papaya wrote:Yes Great! In the last time there are really a lot of new known VU films.
Just some weeks ago the Donald Jacksons footage (by the way: I ask three times fo a little info but never get any replay)
and This from the Gymnasium Tapes trade:
Speaking of unheard tapes: I met Ronald Nameth a month ago and he told me he had "hours of tapes" of the Poor Richards stand in Chicago! He shot the EPI film there every night for a week. He said there were lot's of great recordings on them and told me I could hear them some day. Can't wait, but I'll let you know asap.
OH How could I forget!: A WALK INTO THE SEA with some beautiful seconds of Velvet footage! (Is there more? Sound?)

ooh sorry I was a little overexcited. I agree, I am immensely grateful for everything we have received in the past few years, and I too am completely shocked that these new discoveries keep on appearing just when I think its going to be many months or, gasp, years before a new recording appears. and on some level I think, man, it could be a decade before something appears...but I never can believe that will occur. I am so grateful for these recordings that I listen to them everyday in fact. To me the quine tapes are insane, 3 sister rays, yeahhhh! Being so close to the former matrix and family dog locations makes it all the more poignant. I think I just wanted to say If anyone ever wants to work together on a highly serious mission of any sort in relation to VU acquisition count me in. I never post here, probably for the better for you, hah, but I read every word with utter delight and fascination and I thank you all for all the knowledge and music. I really believe this board and the VU web page have done an immense, shocking amount to preserve everything.

on another topic the chaiwallah at my store told me this week his dad shot photos of the VU in LA that have never been seen before. His father was a vietnam war photog and has lots of film from the LA daze. All of it shot and never printed, piles of it. He is going in a few weeks back down to LA to try to acquire some of them. I will do what I can, neg scanner is warmed up already.

I think instead of working today I am going to just to go the warhol live show at the de young and try to calm down.
