Final call on Bataclan release

Post by Technophallus »

I've read mixed reviews on this one. What's the final word on the latest Bataclan release- worth it or not?

Avoid this one. If you can find it for cheap, get it strictly for the packaging and replace the CD with a copy of one of the much better sounding bootlegs out there. If you spend your hard earned cash on it, be prepared to deal with horrible sound remastering. It sounds as if they took one of the older vinyl bootleg versions with the pitch WAY TOO SLOW and put it straight to CD. Lou, Cale, and Nico's voices are WAY TOO SLOW. It's like listening to Lurch sing!

For such a spectacular packaging job, they really dropped the ball when it came to remastering the actual recording. CRAP.

Yep, it's ssslllloooowww and they have also managed to add a new digital glitch to the music. I have various cdrs each slightly different of Bataclan which have the same sound-quality but lack the glitch. Every version that I have plays slow, except for my vinyl copy which reverses the trend and plays too fast.

Like mg196 and Elvis Plebsley said, the running speed is too slow, everyone's voices sound too deep... Very disappointing... and I was so excited to see it come out. Oh well...

What do you mean by "digital glitch?"

Erm, I believe that's what we're talking about.

Official it is, but unfortunately not decent enough...

Hey Homme, that CD is listed as an October 19 release date by a different label. I wonder what the hell this is! It wouldn't surprise me if someone came out with a speed-corrected version considering the demand for it is probably pretty great (among fans anyways).

I'd like to think that standards are becoming higher and higher for these companies. Ever hear the expression, "You can't polish a turd?" Well, that is what we got with that Bataclan "remaster." If you see some of these DVD remasters coming out, Led Zeppelin, The Who's "The Kids Are Alright," you see that there is a new level of dedication being put into remastering. The VU&Nico is a good example.

I am REALLY curious to see what this Italian Bataclan release is like.

Given the quasi-legal status of this release, it could be another rival edition. Just look at the Van Morrison 'Bang' tapes. How many versions are available of that these days?
