1969 press kit

Post by simonm »

Hi guys...

there isn't any kind of policy on here about selling stuff here AFAIK, but the mods can delete this if I'm contravening any rule I haven't noticed...

I'm going to be selling this press kit soon, as I need the cash, and want to get rid of some stuff.

I'm veering towards just heading for ebay, but thought it might be a better idea to sell here instead? It's an awkward situation, and there are ethical considerations. I'm a trusted member here hopefully. What should I do?

Here it is - press kit for 3rd LP - excellent condition, but missing group portrait and Doug 10x8. Band biog is a modern photocopy.

the names written on the inside cover are contemporary, and include Hank Williams (!?), Tommy Flanders (ex Blues Project and Verve/MGM solo artist), and Saul Saget - MGM head of creative services, in charge of packaging, advertising etc. The black strip is a sticker.

real 10x8 glossy photos - the best thing about this package IMO

That does in fact look like the coolest thing in the world. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to offer you anything near what you'd want for it though!

I know I should set a price, but don't have much idea of what it's worth to be honest

Tricky one Simon, can't help but think you will get a good price on Ebay but it would also be nice to think that someone on this forum could own it.

It is a very difficult item to value - original promo 10x8 do turn up occasionally for say ?40-100. Times this by all the pictures and inserts and that might indicate a value.

Don't know whether you'll get the right price at Christmas/Jan when everyones broke!

wise words - maybe this isn't the best time to sell - but I think it's going one way or another.

I would love to have it, but I am actually getting ready to thin my HUGE collection due to finances. My problem is trying to pick something to let go of.....I can't choose! If you put it on eBay you wil probably get much intrest from the Japanese  collectors who pay upwards of $3500 for mono Emerson bananas! Good luck; watch for an eBay buyer called "rekusukun" I think; he spends tons on VU over and over again. Rick

Wow ... Wow!!! Never seen this before in my 28 years collecting VU.
I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE IT!!! but being fair it should be worth a goooooood bunch of bucks.

I would try at Ebay but with a high min bid. This is a rare item. Do not let it go cheap, pls.

Good luck

Interesting - I've got a mono Emerson, with the banana still intact. Hmmm ...
Although I wonder; >$3500 seems to be a bit steep. It surely can't be worth that much?

The press kit is fab, btw!
